Default Tell The Community Team: UI

We're looking for some brave volunteers to share their feedback about DDO UI features using our new survey tool! If you'd like to participate, click here for the survey.

    Notes:
    - There are several ongoing discussions about the recent UI changes. This survey is a more general look at how you interact with UI while you play. We welcome you to keep participating in the ongoing UI discussions that are happening in the forums in addition to taking the survey.
    - For this first run the survey is available in English only. In future additions we hope to offer French/German translations too! All players are still welcome to participate and if you need help understanding the questions, just ask!

Thank you so much to everyone for offering their feedback and trying the survey!

There is a text link that says "Exit Survey >>" but that is in reference to leaving the survey

I had the same thought as mourn...

Perhaps change it to "Leave Survey", or the like?

Cancel is a good candidate, or just Exit

Will check to see if we can readjust it so it's less confusing. "Leave Survey" seems the most clear.

What a total waste of time and energy.

You've known since U11 went to Lamannia that players didn't like the new UI. And now you've gotten around to fielding a survey?

As if the bazzilion threads telling you that it isn't any good were not enough....

'I don't like it' is not as beneficial as 'This is what I dislike and this is what I DO like'. A targeted survey helps to get the feedback that is necessary to make the fixes we actually want as a group.

That said, the survey seemed a bit short and didn't include the key questions that have been fueling the fire amongst the community.

Only a small % of players use the forums, and even less are very vocal on them. I'm sure those threads have the same people arguing with each other instead of a balanced view of DDO's community as a whole.

If your friends hate (or love, or don't really care...) the new UI, tell them to participate. Too bad it's not listed on the launcher screen.

edit: I really like Cauthey's suggestion up there.

You could have spent the time you used writing this to just take the survey and actually make a difference.

    Just sayin'.

Like numerous others, I took the time to fill out the survey, and I spent the most time on the comment box (I put in about six or seven items in there.)

Fielding a survey is a tried and true technique to slow things down and backpedal taking action on problems. I learned this in management courses over the years.

The survey allows Turbine to look like they're doing something while giving them the time to slow roll the issue until the next one comes along.

Almost a guarantee that they will ignore the large body of threads and feedback they've already gotten.

    same.

I didn't hesitate to fill the ad-lib box, as I uses the party UI for a lot of things and right now it's near impossible to use it.

This could be a winner if you really want us to see the HP/SP of others :

Just took the survey. I have to say it is awfully small. Tolero, I know you said it was a more general survey so I will wait to see if more surveys come out in the future. But the six or seven questions on this survey barely scratch the surface of the concerns with the UI. Seems there is a disconnect between the issues the community has and the issues Turbine sees as important enough to ask questions on a survey about? Anyways, just my 2 cents.

Couple of things on "survey shrinkage"...

    1. Lengthy surveys can be detrimental to getting feedback. Not everyone wants to read a 20 page novel's worth of questions and surveys that are too long tend to get bailed out on after page 2 (especially when no incentives other than "the warm squishy feelings that come with helping" are offered). We added the open ended comment box to capture any pressing concerns that didn't fit in the first pass (which I full expect to see).
    2. Questions being absent from a survey has no bearing or relation to what feedback we've already gathered from users through the community or game. The UI and Design team has already received multiple reports on UI concerns. As I understand it, Madfloyd has some more tidbits to post in one of the existing threads, but I'll avoid further stealing his thunder.

#1. Agreed (work has sent us some doozies in the past that I found myself putting N/A in boxes just to get it over with).
-Suggestion: Maybe some targetted forum votes based on user suggestions? We'd all have to be mature enough to understand that dev's may not read the 1 million replies but lean on the votes cast on what Turbine's able to deem a hot enough particular UI element to get a clear temperature of our opion for.
--ex: Party UI bar vs. Personal UI Bar:
    Voting Options being:
Auto Toggle (switches based on party/raid membership or solo).
    Leave as is.

And I think it's great you guys are willing to at least take our opinions down and consider our input (whether some of the suggestions I'll be tossing in are feasible is another matter).

Thanks for that. The survey seemed very short to my standards, but I am one that enjoys taking tests, so

As for the Party UI, the bars were compacted without means to lengthen or shrink them. I want a slider or dropdown or something. Something like the Gamma bar used solely for the length of party members' HP/SP/Ki bars would really shut down some of the debate. Furthermore, offering different UI themes or a means by which players can build UI themes that modify the general shape and tactile operation of parts of the UI (as I mentioned, I wanted radio-style buttons for my hotbar with campaign-pin type visual style and space between them. Floaty glossy circle buttons lined up in rows/columns) would set some of the option for meeting demand on player shoulders, for the more ingenious and time-equipped DDO members.

As for the rest, Repeaters are a little buggy on reload, especially when having to move over just a smidge while reloading (it makes the char reload twice), using Fusellade (the character appears to reload during the extremely short firing timer that rightly should be at bare minimum 10 seconds), and on Arcane Archers with repeater proficiency. A few ToD sets have been overlooked and some PrEs were left incomplete (Ninja Spy, Battle Engineer), but all in all I like what was done in the update.

On bugs, video and memory lag when switching characters has increased to a critical level. If more than one switch, then the entire party experiences lag. Please include a Buffer Flush button on the Character screen.

I wouldn't see a long survey for something you care about being "detrimental". Given all the impassioned posts on the forums about changes and suggestions for the game most people want to help make things better.

You could also toss in 25 TP for doing a long survey to satisfy the mercenaries among us. Even a 20 page novel's worth of questions would be less time intensive than a 100 favor grind.
