Default Is this a good build?

    Hey guys!

I'm pretty new to the game, so don't be too hard on me...

When playing my paladin (who's level 7 or so by now) I noticed that especially low level he kind of sucks. He's getting hit way to often, suffers to much damage and doesn't make any significant damage compared to other classes. I was thinking about what might be a nice tank/melee dmg build, especially for leveling and came up with this one. Tell me what you think about it...

The monk's more or less for the feats the first couple of levels and the high concentration. Two levels of monk seem to me better than rogue...

I would recommend you read Junt's guide to paladins it will give you lots of advice and some sample builds even.

You may, as I would have, not like this, but with a 28 point paladin its rather difficult to get a good AC build. its worthwhile to keep your AC up as high as you can get it without compromising damage output, especially till around level 14, but for 29 point buy and no pre-acquired tomes to build into your character, things like a starting intelligence of 13 for the CE feat might result in frustration later when you wish your strength or charisma was higher.

I definitely second reading the Junt's guide. Its long, but definitely worth it. My personal note is that everything he says is sound advice and its important to understand say, what kind of charisma you want to aim for, so you dont go to low or even too high, to get Divine Might... but there is no need to create a cookie cutter character. I.e. if scimitars are better than longswords, take that into consideration, but play with a longsword if you want a longsword character.

My 28 point build, first main character, paladin has 60 ac at 20, which helps some, but often does little (switch into evasion gear for an 18/2 evasion) and I think without reincarnating I couldnt get it above 66-68, which is a fair bit below what people claim is necessary for AC to really matter in difficult high level quests.

Also I feel the same often about spreading out skill points, but, especially after I recommend taking less int, I would concentrate on just a few skills, maxxing them out. Intimidate first, and then maybe balance, concentration, jump and tumble in that order, if you have the points for it.

I wouldnt recommend Mobility, Spring Attack and Imp.Trip. and unless your really committed to high AC, even dodge and combat expertise. You'll definitely want improved critical. If you like sword and shield, perhaps consider bastard sword or dwarven axe proficiency and then the two handed weapon fighting line. This gives you glancing blows on your 1h weapon and allows you the option of using a 2h for more damage.

I'm going to put this as delicately as possible: your build is terrible. I think I'm getting brain-cramps just looking at it. Your stats are spread too thin, half your feats are terrible while you're lacking any THF or TWF feats (did you go S&B?), your HPs are too low (even by drow standards), unless I missed it you have no PrE...there's a lot of not good on display here.

I'll see what I can do after I get home...and have a stiff drink or two first.
