I recommend you read Impaqt's Soloing 101. I have a Soloing 102 thread that lists 42 different solo builds.

The ones the others have posted are fine, personally I'd go with something close to the Soul Survivor (I'd drop the threat generation enhancements for soloing). I would also go with Adamantine Body and take all the DR enhancements, until you hit 20 at least. And I also gave mine a 14 starting DEX for the reflex saves.

I dual box with a WF melee FvS (on my second TR) and I can attest to their survivability. I mostly do hards and elites.

While I must confess that the normal approach to making a melee specced pure favored soul is to go two handed fighting, if you are looking for a two weapon fighting build I have been working on a pure half elf favored soul that dual wields scimitars.

Would that be an effective build for soloing at a hard/elite difficulty? I dont mean extreme challenge, just the others. I do really enjoy pure builds but it seems that even with extend the FvS buffs are very short, something that can get a little annoying. A lot of the builds I find also rely heavily on tomes or reincarnation, both things I don't have access to.

A question to the people who have contributed so far, Why no barbarians? Do they simply lack some fundamental that prevents them from being effective solo?

((while the little "Joined" date may be 2009, ive only been playing about.... 2 weeks. I got to lvl 8 on a terrible wizard back then and went back to WoW. Sorry for the dumb/Newb questions!))

    human 17cleric/3monk.

self buff align the heavens for -25% spell cost. high saves and decent AC through low levels. boost healing amp and melee your way through content with a healing aurora up. blade barriers and such. still have raid caliber heals at end-game (miss out on a few spell slots and SPs).

it will require a tome though. base 15 DEX then the standard +2 DEX tome at level 7 to qualify for improved two weapon fighting. it shouldnt be too expensive to obtain a +2 DEX tome. just dont buy one off the AH as they are terribly overpriced. try to obtain one via the forum marketplace and they are much more affordable.

Experienced players with a lot of resources can probably solo fine with a Barbarian, but it'll be rough for a new player. Efficient soloing generally requires the ability to heal and is helped by having some ability to reduce or avoid damage and barbarians can't do any of those things, beyond using healing potions. You'll notice that the majority of suggestions focus on classes that can cast healing spells.

I see. Thanks! Barbarian sounds a little... over my current abilities.

Ill have to try out some of these, they sound very fun.
