Which race would do more damage as a fighter defender build with decent/good gear using the epic chim fang? Human or half orchestra?
Which race would do more damage as a fighter defender build with decent/good gear using the epic chim fang? Human or half orchestra?
since damage is entirely focused on STR .. and halforcs have the highest STR in the game by between 2 and 8 points .. I would say humans not even worth looking at if your talking DPS.
then again if your wearing a sheild your not dps ... period.
The best build would be Dwarf ... High Hps ... dwarven armor bonus (allows for higher dex mod to armor) which stacks with fighter armor bonus.
OR ALTERNATIVELY
Warforged with higher DR and crud AC but high hps.
but personally i would say dwarfs make the best defender builds for fighters.
Did you read the OP? He's asking about using the Epic Chimera's Fang, which has nothing to do with dwarves.
Half-orcs have a lead now, though with U11 and the Human Versatility Damage Boost it will come down to a choice between consistent damage or short bursts. The human bonus feat might be worthwhile for this build over the horc DPS since it will help in fitting in 3 dragonmarks plus whatever non-fighter feats you want (ie a few Toughnesses), and as a defender your straight DPS is kind of a secondary concern to your hate generation. They are related, obviously, but there is some separation of necessities.

I think human will win, come u11, due to action boosts, and the fact that the fang is alot better with dragon mark of sentinel.

This guy is talking out of his ass. Heres a simply breakdown of between horc vs human
Humans:
HV:dmg boost [which can be used with rogue/fighter haste boost]
1 extra feat
+10 efang
more healing amp
Horc:
+3str[+5 if you go barb]
+3dmg pa
+3 actionboost
brute fighting for more threat gen.
Why is that listed under humans only? The new Fang gives its bonuses for any dragonmarks, although the Sentinel line is more on theme (and generally better) than the Finding one.
Horc ends up with more consistently higher DPS, a better to-hit in CE (non-PA) mode, and more threat.
Human ends up with more HP (probably), healing amp, an extra feat and bursts of higher DPS.

Dwarf.
As other have said.. S&B != DPS.
But stalwart defenders will be awesome tanks after the upgrades.
And Dwarf is the best tank race for a few reasons:
- HP!!! The highest +20% = more of the highest.
- +5 SAVES = Not easy to get great saves on a pure fighter tank.. But on a dwarf, not too tough.
- AC related enhancements.
- Shield mastery related enhancements.
Epic Chimera's Fang: This weapon now has a +6 enhancement bonus, 2d10 base damage, Silver, Keen, Shocking Burst, Disintegration, Destruction, Shatter +10, and a Red Augment Slot. The weapon also grants additional abilities based on the number of Dragonmarks a wielding character has:
1 or more Dragonmarks: Bastard Sword proficiency, +7 enhancement bonus
2 or more Dragonmarks: Greater Parrying, +8, Incite 10%
3 Dragonmarks (non-Sentinel): Sup. Parrying, +8, Incite 15%
3 Dragonmarks (all Sentinel): +10, Fortified Defenses 50%, Incite 20%
Only get it to +10 with Sentinal Dragonmarks

Ehhhh. First of all, the OP was asking about the best race to choose to use the new Epic Chimera's Fang, so not really dwarves.
Secondly, I'm not sure you would be able to fit all the saves enhancements in on such a character. And the AC enhancements are going on top of the fighter one, which requires a boat load of Dex, likely more than a character will have.
Finally, the Shield Mastery enhancements are junk at this point, since shield blocking comes up so rarely after the intimidate changes.
Dwarves are good, but not the best.
I stand corrected.

I'm going with Horc... more threat, more real damage, dragonmarks that are actually useful. Dwarf is a close contender, but most of the defensive bonuses are redundant and don't stack, further they are short. lol.
