To say you "haven't bought anything" is a gross misstatement of the law. Just because you don't have all the legal rights of full ownership doesn't mean that you have no legal rights. And, you're not "given a licence" as that implies a gratuitous promise of future access, you purchase a licence with consideration and have a legal right to that licence.

Licences don't last forever. Driver's licences, fishing licenses... But yes.

When Half-Ogre and Half-Plastic were released, they costed a bunch more than the old races previously did. But the old races also got a large stacking buff to their cost. I can only hope the same isn't happening with classes and artificer. (Not that the price change would matter to me, I'm a premium with all pre-U11 races and classes... ehm no I didn't buy drow)

When I pay for a product, I expect that product to work as advertised and as purchased.

If I buy a new Corvette, can GM suddenly at any time, days or years later, decide to show up at my house and reprogram the PCM causing a massive decrease in horsepower?

If favored souls happened to be a cash item / points item and now their wings are getting clipped, isn't that the same thing?

Now those of you who are about to pay cash for an artificer, how will you react when they nerf spells, rune arms, etc. over the course of time?

It doesn't work like that. You would own the Corvette, but with MMO characters and property, you are renting it. Never owned by the player. You pay cash to rent your characters and all you do with them, and everything is owned by Turbine, and they can then do whatever they want with it.
