Default Update 11: Point Blank Shot

In the release notes Point Blank Shot is getting a make over.

Point Blank Shot has been changed to, "You gain +1 bonus to hit with ranged attacks within 45 feet, and your ranged weapons deal deals +1(Base Weapon Damage). (A weapon that deals 1d6 damage per hit will deal 2d6 damage per hit instead, while a weapon that deals 2d8 damage per hit will deal 4d8 damage instead. This affects the base dice associated with a weapon any time they are rolled, including critical hits.)"

First off, awesome update to this feat. The range is being increased by 15 feet. Now, I would assume this update is going to play nicely with the Ranger Deepwood Sniper I, Which also increases the range of Point Blank Shot.

Ranger Deepwood Sniper entry: Grants a +1 bonus to Hide, Move Silently, and Spot, and extends your 'point blank shot' range by 10 meters, bringing it to a base of 25 meters.

That an increase of 10 meters or about 30 feet. I would like to point out that the Point Blank Shot feat is using feet as the unit of measurement and the Ranger Deepwood Sniper entry uses meters. Not a big deal. Just thought I would point it out that the entire Deepwood Sniper entry is messed up.

The updated Point Blank Shot + Deepwood Sniper should have a range of 75 feet?

While the description you posted says "ranged", does this work with thrown weapons?

I do believe PBS only works with Bow and Crossbows.

Upon further reflection, wail I do like the update to Point Blank Shot. Any increase to ranged DPS is extremely welcome, but I think this modification is getting away from the original concept of the feat.

Point Blank Shot works in my mind for to reasons:
    1. The target is so close, it's extremely easy to hit for a skill bowman. If trog is only 5 feet away a ranger should have no problem sinking an arrow into it's forehead.
    2. The projectile has the greatest amount of energy at the point it leaves the weapon and only loses energy the farther it goes. That arrow probably would go clean through that trog's skull, that's standing 5 feet away.

Again, I'm cool with the update but would much rather have seen the range reduced and even more damage. 3, maybe 4 weapon damage apposed to 2.

If done this way, it could lead into finishing the Deepwood Sniper II and III ranger enhancement. Extending the range of Point Blank Shot could be the Deepwood Sniper's thing.

Last thought was to finally utilize that worthless PnP stat on ranged weapons. "The Range Increment". Tie the range of Point Blank Shot to the weapons range increment. Any target in side the range increment for your weapon get the benefit or Point Blank Shot.

It might seem viable to have a 6/9* ranger splash in a xbow build (at least you'll get rapid shot as well)

    *Either 6 ranger/12 artificer/2 monk (for evasion)
    or 9 ranger/11 artificer

    BTW Deadly Weapons + Point Blank Shot = ... ? x2 ? x3 ? x4 ?

So Unwavering Ardency goes from 2d12 to 4d12 within Point Blank Range?

I have a reply from Eladrin in PM that this should affect thrown weapons too. I don't have llamaland installed at this time. Can someone confirm it is or is not working?

I rather like how the wording sort of implies (to me at least) that you get the damage step bonus even beyond 45 feet. I know that can't possibly be true, but I still like it. (Hey, my monk's shurikens can do 1d4 damage when sniping! Whoo!) The whole separating the extra damage section from the bit about "within 45 feet" is what does it for me.

In other news, I do believe the current version of PBS works for thrown weapons; no reason the upgraded version wouldn't.
