Help: Interact hotkey

So when I first started playing again, there was this fun button I could push and loot anything that was even remotely near my cursor. Now, I must have done something and I can't figure out what, that isn't working. I have to actually get my cursor on stuff. Which is really irritating just trying to pick up random breakable's loot.

I've tried all the various "Interact" hotkeys in the keymap, without the stuff that's several controls in 1 like Interact/Steer and nothing is working. I hope there's just something stupid that I'm missing. Could it be one of those combo's?

You probably have Autotargeting turned off.

Assuming you have the "new" keymap from Sept. 2009 - Present:

Hit "G". Look at the top center of your screen. Make sure it says auto-targeting enabled. G is the toggle key.

Q to select nearest non-combat target, E to interact.

Have you tried remapping your keys back to default, to see if that would help?

I just did, and the E works. I didn't like that keymap though, and the exact entry that is set up as E is what I remapped that doesn't work....fun times. I'll just deal with the default I guess, it's not THAT much different than what I like :/

I had this happen too!!

But your post gave me an idea.. Something is wrong with "E" or the order they want you to change your bindings now!!

So, I hit default

found where "E" was (interact, like I thought it was)

did not clear the setting, but changed it and hit my mouse 3 button.

That made it M3 and "E"

Then I hit change again and set it to "U"

Now it says Interact = "U" and M3

Then I changed "E" to strafe, and "Q" too..

And now everything works the way it did before!!

I can pick up or interact with anything in the lil window, where before it would go to soft target even hittin "U" if it wasn't under my pointer!!

Had this problem as well, so I set everything to default to clear out the error then remapped everything the way I like it and then made a backup of the keymapping file.

Now whenever the interact bug pops up again, I reset everything to default again and restore the keymaps from the backup file.

I just encountered this problem. Barashkukor's method saved the day. Thank goodness for search engines.

Incidentally, resetting my key map also cleared a bug with the / key. I had accidentally bound it to another key, and until I reset the key map to its defaults, I had to hit <enter> before typing "/g <message>".
