Smile Maetrim - A Completionist Tank Build

Edited 6/9/2011 for changes suggested etc.

I would like to present here the build for my completionist intimitank. He has
been a long time in the making (and not yet finished). Any suggestions on
    improvements would be most welcomed.

I originally planned him to be an 18 Fighter / 2 Rogue with epic level trap
skills. I may go back to that at some point, but this version is an
    18 Fighter / 2 Monk.

The overall aim of the build apart from being totally uber is to be a
party / raid main tank and dps machine. With excellent saves, superior hp,
superior AC, no fail intimidate, evasion and self healing through vampiric
weapon(s), I think the build will fulfill that role in just about any party
make up. Worst case would be holding agro by hate tanking against
super-frenzied barbarians, but that can be worked around.

The problems with this build apart from getting all the past lives is that it
requires a large amount of hard to acquire end game items and epic gear. So it
is not recommended for the casual player. I am still collecting some of that
myself along with acquiring some additional past lives (not to mention all
    those +4 tomes).

On a side note, apart from needing to be a 36 point build, the only past lives
you would need to make an non-completionist version would be barbarian and
paladin past lives, as those are the only direct active past life feats that
are used. This would also free up the completionist feat slot for something
    of your choice (eg Toughness).

Feats taken during level up (and in order) are:
    Code:
        Lvl 1: (Monk Bonus) Dodge
Lvl 1: (Selected) Past Life: Berserker's Fury
Lvl 1: (Human Bonus) Stunning Blow
Lvl 2: (Fighter Bonus) Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Khopesh
        Lvl 3: (Selected) Completionist
Lvl 3: (Fighter Bonus) Weapon Focus: Slashing Weapons

    Saves
We need good saves to survive, its dangerous out there!

    Total 43 35 38
Not brilliant, but adequate. Probably the weakest link in the chain.

    AC
The second main aim of this build is AC and lots of it. AC is very gear
dependent and there are many ways to configure this. But aiming at evasion
mode while wearing Icy Raiments is my target.

Assuming all the gear in TWF mode we have:

    Code:
    Base AC 10
    Monk AC bonus 1
    Wisdom AC bonus 13
    Dodge feat 1

    Intimidate
One of the main aims of this build is solid no fail intimidate which allows
you to steal agro from those raging barbarians in raids. A higher skill means
you get more agro. So, what can we achieve?

    Code:
    Skill ranks (level 20) 23
    Bullheaded feat 2
    Past Life: Berserker's Fury 2
Completionist feat (+2 all skills) 2
    Charisma modifier 10 (30 cha = +10)
    Stalwart defender 3 6
    Improved intimidate IV 4
Luck item 2 (epic Scorched Bracers upgrade)
Coin lords finishing school 2 (400 Coin Lords favour)
    --------------------------------------
    Total 53

    Greater heroism 4
Epic Brawns Spirits (trinket) 20 (Swap in when needed, also +20hp)
Shroud charisma skill item 6 (Swap in tier 3 triple air goggles)
    --------------------------------------
    Standard self buff 83

    Bard skill song 2
Yugoloth: Essence of Seduction 1 (+2 stacking charisma)
    House denith skill potion 3
    --------------------------------------
    Buffed total 89
With the right additional buffs you can drop the use of the shroud skill item
and still maintain 100% intimidate on all bosses which can be intimidated.

    No fail intimidate required:
    79 - Epic Queen Lailat
    80 - Elite Xy'zzy
90 - Elite Xy'zzy when suffering bees of Xoriat debuff (-10 to intimidate)

    Use Magic Device
This is a very important skill which should not be ignored. As we are a
fighter / monk we suffer as its a cross class skill when leveling. We require
this skill to hit at least 30 so we can equip our epic Chaos Blade(s) and
handle self healing via heal scrolls.

    Code:
    Skill ranks 11
    Charisma 10
    Skill focus UMD 3
Past life Artificer 1..3 (depending on number of lives)
Good Luck 2 (epic Scorched Bracers)
Completionist feat (+2 all skills) 2
    ------------------------------------------
    Standing total 29..31

    Greater heroism 4
Shroud skill item 6 (swap in)
    ------------------------------------------
    Typical self buff setup 39..41

Seven Figured Gloves 5 (swap in)
    Bard skill song 2
    ------------------------------------------
    Buffed Total 46..48
    The DPS Component
In standard intimidate / tank mode you sit at 44 strength using a mineral 2
Khopesh in one hand and probably an epic Chaos Blade in the other for as you
fight healing. When you want to go all out DPS mode, you switch out the
stalwart defender ring and the epic Belt of the Mroranon and replace with
them with the Ravager ring / belt set for bonus damage.
This also increases your strength to 46. You can also switch from Icy Raiments
to an epic Red Dragon Scale robe for additional flaming burst to all attacks.

The active Paladin past life feat allows you to use divine favour on yourself
3 times per rest, for two additional minutes of +3 to hit and +3 damage.
With Fighter Haste Boost II and Human Versatility boost you can also increase
your DPS output. This enhanced DPS mode would be down at least 14 AC points,
but as this would probably be used in epic quests only where AC is not really
a factor it should be no real loss.

Stunning blow is a significant factor for the build. With a DC of:
    Code:
    Base 10
    Strength bonus 17 (44 strength)
Fighter Strategy (Stunning Blow) IV 4
Fighter past live(s) 1..3 (+1 tactical feats per life)
Stunning item 10 (Swap in weapon)
    ----------------------------------------
    DC total 42..44
    Gear Setup
I am going for the Greater Might of the Abishai profane bonus to AC, strength
and constitution with the 5 item set. This uses the helm, boots, gloves,
bracers and cloak slots. The Stalwart set uses a ring and necklace slot, while
the Chattering ring uses the last ring slot. After that, its try and cram the
rest of the gear in as best you can. I went with this setup:

    Abishai slots:
Boots: Epic Boots of Corrosion, upgrade +4 Natural Armour, +1 exceptional wis
Swap in - Boots of anchoring
Swap in - Kundarak delving boots
Bracers: Epic Scorched Bracers, upgrade good luck +2
Cloak: Epic Envenomed Cloak, upgrade Greater False Life
Swap in clickie: Cloak of Ice (fire shield cold)
Gloves: Epic Charged Gauntlets, upgrade +6 dex
Swap in - Epic Spectral Gloves for ghost touch
Swap in - Seven Fingered Gloves
Helmet: Epic Helm of the Frost, upgrade +6 wisdom

These also provide greater fire, cold and lighting resistance as standard.

    Stalwart slots:
    Necklace: Stalwart necklace
Ring: Cinders Band, upgrade +2 exceptional dex

    Other slots:
    Ring: Chattering Ring, Resistance ritual
Swap in - Ravagers ring, Upgrade +2 exceptional str
Armour: Icy Raiments, Upgrade armour ritual
Swap in - Cloth of the Faithfull, immunity to magic missiles clickie
Swap in - Epic Red Dragon Scale robe, Upgrade ???
Belt: Epic Belt of the Mroranon, Upgrade exceptional dex + 1
    Swap in - Knosts belt
    Trinket: Epic Bloodstone
Swap in - Epic Brawns Spirits, upgrade ???
    Swap in - UWA item
Goggles: Epic Goggles of Time Sensing, Upgrade ??? and +1 exceptional cha
Swap in - Shroud +6 CHA skill item (air;air;air)
Swap in - Mentaus goggles when not using Epic bloodstone
    Weapon: Epic Chaos Blade
Weapon: Mineral 2 Khopesh (tier 3 is insight 4)

You could go for some build variation, slightly less AC by assigning the two
level ups from wisdom to strength instead. But I have always been an AC junkie
and believe that at end game every point can be vital. Your healers will love
you for the self healing through vampiric weapons and lack of damage taken.
There are also quite a few upgrade slots on those epic items that can be used,
with choice between UWA, feather fall, fear immunity, disease; poison and
blindness immunity or even a stat upgrade to intelligence.

Well, there we go. I hope people find it interesting. Comments welcome.

What I notice from having skimmed through it is that I would dump the ranged feats, and pick up paladin PL along with another toughness or two.

Also, you might want to summarize your enhancements / skills somewhere and remove the level progression thingy. It takes up a large amount of space and makes it nigh impossible to find what enhancements you have.
I don't know if you have haste boost, but if you don't, take that long with human versatility - as they can be used at the same time.

Cleave or quickdraw will be essensial as well, since you're going to want to cut down the delay after boosting, QD will halve the delay (from 1.2 to 0.6) and cleave would remove it entirely if you just cleave after boosting.

That's what I've found so far, good build overall, however, and I reckon it'll work quite well.

Oh yea, and let's not forget that you cna use Yugoloth pots (wisdom) for +4 natural AC as well, so no need to sock your boots with natural +4.

Oh, with U11 you can also use an Air-air-air khopesh with the new crafting, granting you 2 exceptional dex on that one, which will allow you to pick +2 str on your cinders band.
The other hand can be fire-earth-air, giving you seeker 10 along with +2 exceptional con (I think earth is con) and other stuff.

    EDIT again:
I suggest getting GFL on your bracers rather than good luck +2, and then getting good luck +2 on boots, and follow that up with getting whatever on your gloves, since that +4 natural ac is wasted on boots (as I wrote above). That way you'll make sure that you have GFL when wearing your abashai gear.

Goggles of time sensing do NOT count as part of the abishai set. Only Boots of Corrosion/Charged Gauntlets/Scorched Bracers/Helm of Frost/Envenomed Cloak. I suggest swapping Envenomed in and moving your HP to goggles.

Absolutely no reason I can think of to slot +6 int.

Strength breakdown, if you use Knost's you won't have the +7 from from Belt of the Mroranon because you can't have 2 belts....

Why not put the last level into strength, getting it to an even number? Then you could drop +1 exceptional wisdom or the helm or the enhancement.

The ship buffs do stack for AC. Remember the Kobold too, +1.

Epic Brawn's is being changed in U11 to +20 (whatever the normal type of bonus is for skills, competence?) to intimidate instead of +5 enhancement. They are also adding +2 exceptional Con and 10% incite.

Minor point, but all your saves are off.

36 Con only gives +13 to Fortitude, not +18
34 Dex only gives +12 to Reflex, not +17
36 Wis only gives +13 to Will, not +18

Completionist is obviously awesome for this kind of build. But like the other players, I wouldn't want to do a bunch of past lives (wizard... sorc... blah) to enable my tank to shoot a bow better while getting similar HP. I wouldn't rest until it was OVER 9000!! HP

Or at least 900. You earned it, and tanks with lots less resources have 800. :P
White Fang (newbie-friendly build) - TWF melee dps with self-sufficiency and rogue skills.
California King - the hagglebot craftbot alt build, pure Arty leveling with two-handed weapons.

Yay basically fixed. Some "flavor" things *I* still don't like (mixing up level ups, Dodge and TWF for only +2 AC, skill focus umd on a tank instead of something more combat oriented), but that's it.

    Default Early?

I just played with you the other day, you were like lvl 8 on your 9th life, your doing this early arent you?

But anyways looks solid the only thing you may be concerned about is the hate gen. When you get that moronic barb who runs an e/sos and double rages, frenzy, death frenzy, and leaves his hate gen on. You got a problem there.

    Hey hey Maetrim!

I think that is a really good build, but I think that best race for tank is Half-elf. 2 uses of intimi and dilletante feat could be improve human tank.

What do you think about it?

    Greetings

The Helf intimidate has a 60sec cooldown, unless they changed it for U11 and it isn't in the notes. I thought it would be a good idea to be Helf for multiple intimidates once also, but it doesn't work as well as you'd think it should (1 extra intim every 4 normal ones, can't lock an enemy like before it was changed to 15s CD). Not that 25% extra intimidate is bad, it just may not be useful all that often. I'm neutral on the matter since the intim isn't the best, but human doesn't get much over it either.

I need to to go human for the extra feat, plus Maetrim has almost always been a human though his lives. Its what he was always going to be. Currently on life 11, with just sorceror and artificer to go afterwards.

But I may be going for some extra barbarian and ranger lives. Extra built in resists and hp will be nice. Plus extra umd for multiple artificer lives may be an option also.

I like to plan my builds in advance like this. For one thing I know what gear I need to acquire and I have my other level 20 trying to acquire the epic scrolls/seals and shards I will need while I keep Maetrim on the level up track. But I think its going to get a whole lot quicker once the changes to xp come through the door in U11. Stacking bonus's from running hard / elite plus more for 1st time compoletions on hard / elite are going to make quite a difference.

More than Ranger lives, I think that is better to do various pally and monk past lifes, more damage and healing amplification could be awesome for a tank. More damage = more hate. More healing amp = more survivability.

What do you think about it?

Since you're human, exchange Bullheaded for Least Sentinel dragonmark. You gain 1 more intimidate (+2 from feat, +1 from enh.) and a +5 protection clickie (so +1 AC since you only have +4).
    Thelanis: Nassim* (F12/P6/M2) - Talienor** (P18/Ra2) - Feithlin** (F12/Bd7/C1) - Stoneoak* (F12/M6/P2) - Hokusai (M17/F2/C1) - Ardence* (Bd15/F3/Ro2) - Matsushiro* (Ro11/M6/P3) | Argonessen: Luneargent (W18/Ro2) - Talienor (Ro20) - Takshir (Bd16/F2/Ro2) - Hiacynthe (C20) | Ghallanda: A bunch of pre DDO Unlimited characters (field of testing for post U19 )

I have been thinking about that. I was considering whether it was possible to dump the min2 khopesh with insight+4 for an epic chimeras fang (thats the sentinel BS item I think), but only if I could acquire enough sentinel feats to make it worthwhile.

Well, started a trial run of the final build posted here, or a close variant of it anyway.
Finally got completionist on christmas eve. Already level 7 and just ate a full set of +2 tomes.

It nice getting back to finally playing an intimitank fighter. Its been playing really well so far.

No deaths (as of yet) - I hope to keep it that way
