Are you bored enough to waste scales on a Min II Shuriken? Try this!
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Do you really think the most logical leap in transportation magic-tech from mage-powered wagons to...plane-shifting ships? I mean, why would you design something so dangerous? Why not design something that keeps you nice and safe on the interior of Khorvaire?
Yeah, they could have gotten more creative, but considering the technological progression of our own world, I think trains was a fine way to go. Plus, how fun is it to have a fight and a fast moving, maybe out of control, train? That's VERY Indiana Jones (the pulp action of Baker's visualized Pulp Noir genre).
I agree with the OP in the respect that the game, as it progresses, doesn't feel like (A)D&D anymore. Adventures like STK and Deleras are almost universaily loved because they 'feel' like the game. I do like the whole necro (1-4) storyline but where is classic imagination like Ravenloft or Queen of the Demonweb Pits? Offering of blood is a poor substitute. The whole assault on sufferfield chain could have been better served by just doing Crown of Ancient Glory. It seems a bit ridiculous to invent this whole chaos/harbinger storyline that no one cares about when you could have designed an 8 quest Ravenloft story arch that everyone would have loved.
friend, good luck in whatever you do next.
wait, you haven't played in a year, so good luck in whatever you're doing now?
errr,
seriously? a good bye post a year after you quit playing?
bah, just go and leave the game behind. no need for a drama exit.
The Office of the Exchequer. 1750 on all live servers via Pure pugging. Thank you very much to all who helped carry a gimp . (wayfinder was a soloist build)
Say it with me: Copyright Infringement. That's why they couldn't do an 8 quest Ravenloft story arc, or Crown of Ancient Glory, or Queen of the Demonweb Pits, or Castle Greyhawk, or the War of the Lance, or Undermountain, or any of a million other modules in existence.
Copyright Infringement.
They acquired the rights to use Eberron, not any of the other worlds' material.

Meh, I like this setting, I like my WF, I wish I could have more char that where WF!
I love the combat system, no other MMO that I have found has a combat system like this, you can actively block, terrain actually matters..
Sorry your not happy with where the game has gone, but it is INHO the best one out there (and it plays well on my dated laptop!)
FR is a lovely but inconsistent and pretty generic fantasy setting. I'm completely happy with Eberron as the chosen setting.
Its ok for everyone to have his own opinion. Personally I don't like Eberon as well due the warforged. There was nothing wrong with the FR or GH if you don't use the high-level npcs. Well, will see how the game goes.
Always been like that.
DDO is nowhere near as 'twinkey' as quite a few other games out there. Anarchy Online, for example.
Fantasy is not always medieval knights and princesses with goblins and giants.

Enjoy the new 4e Neverwinter pay to win game. I'd ask for your stuff, but by the sounds of it you raeg deleted all the decent loot a year ago.
To the op: fair enough for giving a reason for your exit. I wont even try to apologise for the rude replies. It happens on the net and I'm sure you know that.

The game is what it is, play it or don't.
That's it really.

I agree in part with the OP ... D&D is far different than the D&D I grew up playing. I would prefer to have a different setting as well. With that said, I love playing DDO and would not quit just because of the setting. My philosophy ... if I don't like something about the setting I won't play it. Make the game what you want it to be.
Not really, there are 7 sisters, Artemis Enteri, Bunch of uber-drow (Gromph and Quen'thel Baenire, for starters), not to mention rather meddling-in-the-affairs-of-mortals dieties (hello, Mystra) ...and they are all better than you. Doing anything in that setting is rather stupid - why should we fight theese undead when X will come and beat them all?
Badly written novels just cement that notion.
I mean, WotC themseves had to do 100 years later and multiple-disaster-storyline **** just to get some breathing space for adventurers in it. And it was **** even after they did it.
Greyhawk, ok. Blackmoor, cool. Dragonlance, so-so. Eberron/Dark Sun/Planescape... flavored, but very cool. FR? overdetailed, overpopulated, and too much celebrity-porn from book authors.
EDIT: And I'm sure new Neverwinter game won't be even comparable to DDO. I mean, it's more like Borderlands than MMORPG already.

My Version:
I have to be honest. I liked Eberron from the beginning.
I like what wizards of the coast and Turbine has done with DDO.
DDO has always been far superior to WOW.
Eberron setting is maturing well IMO, and the game (which I have played since 2006) is still great fun.
I want to play DDO, not Dragon Lance or Forgotten Realms.
The DDO Forums sometimes get hijacked by punks: Can't you guys make your own game? This game constantly reminds me of years spent PnP'ing with the 1sted books stacked up and full of coolness. There's zombie pirates and the steampunk leaning genre seems so appropriate to the fantasy setting material. And there's knights in pyjamas!
OP: Give us a break. This IS NOT D&D.
If people like don;t like DDO that is fine. It's no reason to dump on other people's favorite game and try to encourage them to leave with you.

Hutoth, thanks for posting what I meant without all the indignation, I get cranky before I've had my coffee
+1
To be honest I would've preferred another setting over Eberron too because I don't like this "everyday-magic" theme, but I sort of grew accustomed to it after reading about it and playing for a while. There are other continents with far less steampunk elements (except for the Orien train maybe) and Stormreach is the way it is (Everything from the setting mashed together) because it is basically the base of operations for expeditions into Xen'drik where everyone sets up camp (House enclaves).
I know U11 will bring us a very very steampunky adventure pack and new class (and frankly, visible googles remind me of WoW) but many people seem to forget that this doesn't mean Turbine will only release steampunk packs from now on.
Feel free to contradict yourself!
