Question Kind of a dumb question but would like to know please

So I heard that if I were to take 1 level of wizard that I would be able to use all wizard scrolls and wands in game if my character was that level but with only taking 1 of wizard and the rest of something else. So I was wondering if this was true, and if so, could I go 18/1/1 Fighter Wizard Favored Soul and be able to use every wand/scroll in-game without any UMD check? Thanks in advance.

It used to be that way, but recently they changed it to class level being the unlock for the scrolls/wands, etc.

    Or something like that.

Yes you can use all wizard scrolls and wands but it will become a level difficulty check instead of a UMD check. You must have said character levels to even use a scroll. Denoted by a yellow border if under level but castable. Note lvl difficulty will always be based on only arcane lvl( 1wiz)

That said UMD is still better in higher tier spells than 1 lvl of arcane.

You need the character level to even try.

For every 1 level below the minimum casting level of the class, you have a 5% chance of failure.

    For example:

So if you have a level 20, 18/1/1 (1 wizard).

You can cast Haste, since you character level is above 3.

You will have a 20% chance of failure, since you are a level 1 wizard, and the minimum wizard level for the spell is level 5.

When the hell did that happen!? I haven't been playing any characters that used that feature...but ****...I missed this change.

I mean, I knew Scrolls were always like that...but Wands are like that now too? Sure makes the Half-Elf caster Dilettante Feats/Enhancements make alot more sense to me now. Maybe I answered my own question, I s'pose it came along with Half-Elves?

Wands do not require class level, only 1 level in the class and character level. 1 level Ranger or Pally ... get Cure Serious Wounds wands at level 5, cmw at level 3, and clw at level 1.

The stuff about scrolls is true though. The dilletante feats for half-elf actually take you a lot further (level 10 cleric) just through enhancements and the half-elf race, which is rather more affordable than multiclassing. The other good option is the UMD skill.
White Fang (newbie-friendly build) - TWF melee dps with self-sufficiency and rogue skills.
California King - the hagglebot craftbot alt build, pure Arty leveling with two-handed weapons.
