    Default Fighter feats question.

Fighters; they get sixteen feats. Ten combat feats, and six general feats. Typically, in fact all my builds with more than twelve fighter levels, have between three and six, seven if human, Toughness feats. This results in gaining an additional 138 hp. However, whenever I tell people I took so many ranks of Toughness, they laugh at me, or tell me I'm gimping myself. I don't get it. Is there any significant reason to not take six ranks of Toughness as a Fighter?

    Fighters get eighteen feats!
    Seven character (1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18)
    Eleven fighter (1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20)

And it's both valid and expected to place unneeded feats straight into more toughness.
I usually go for improved trip and am considering the new improved sunder, but yes, otherwise, toughness all the way.

Forgot the level 1 feats. I always do that when discussing them, but at least I don't forget them in my character builder. I like Imp. Trip since it does sound useful, but needing Combat Expertise, and therefore 13 intelligence is a major turn off. Upon doing research for ten seconds, I did find that Quick Draw is potentially badass, depending on the build and player. I don't know if said badassery is worth the 20+ hp a rank of Toughness would provide.

Imp trip is only three build points with tome - or the difference between 16 and 17 str or con. Well worth it on dwarf or 'forged, who have tactics and arn't desperate for hitpoints. Not happening on a horc, of course.
And yup, I'd consider quickdraw to be up with the rest of the mandatory fighter feats at this point.

Quickdraw is less noticeble on a fighter than it is on a toon that frequently changes to use scrolls or the like. It can be useful though. And why not? Fighters get a ton of feats anyway. Depending on what you're looking for in your build (Straight up DPS? Tank? Other skills?) the feats you'll want to take may change. I have four toughness feats on my fighter, and plan to swap in a fifth one soon. I could have a sixth if I dropped cleave, but that's too fun to give up.

You might want to consider stuff like improved trip. Stunning blow may be a possibility as well, depending on whether or not you're TWF or THF, and if you're willing to spend on stunning gear.

I definitely see the Quick Draw use for UMD users. I'll have to find some way to fit that on my future rogue and bard. Anyways, I think I like the six toughness feats more than Quick Draw, Cleave, and Imp. Trip simply because I do like having 18 base strength and 16-18, depends on race, constitution.

The reason you are getting "laughed" is because most like to provide more DPS at the cost of extreme amounts of HP. My 20th fighter has 611 HP, which isn't as much as I would like (around 650) but decent for a fighter to get through most any quest assuming decent healing. I think I took 2 Toughness's. I have the both sets of feats for TWF (Focus and Spec), Quick Draw (it makes a huge difference for switching weapons and using enhancements), stunning blow, power attack and improved crit and exotic for the khopesh. I also took oTWF to get rid of the negs on off-hand khopesh. Most people ignore this neg and take another feat. I also took cleave due to some mid-lvl feat re-shuffling that broke my build sheet, making it so I couldn't take another toughness feat at 20.

If you are newer (first capped toon) then you won't have the items to supplant the HP lost by losing some of those Toughness's. I have SFL and triple HP GS, plus a +6 con item (common).
