    Default Multiple disconnects today

Today in less than 2 hours I've already had over 10 disconnects. Over the last few days I've had them occasionally but today is insane. It starts when I notice I can't move. Then the network icon will eventually go from green to yellow to red. If I leave it alone it will lead to a dialog box saying I've been disconnected. I usually just close the game as soon as I notice and can reconnect right away.

I know its not my connection since nothing else is being disconnected. I know its not what I'm running since is the same programs I usually have running for the past few years. I also know its not my computer since I just upgraded my computer about a month or so ago and did a fresh install. I even tried rebooting just to be sure.

Its only started a few days ago and today its been about every few minutes. Anybody else having this kind of problem?

Heres an excerpt from my Dxdiag if it'll help:

Perhaps something has changed in your router? Reset? Outside attack that tickled the firewall in it to higher security level? Did your problems start with an update of one of your programs like the firewall?

Well I don't think its the router since I'm not losing internet connection. There hasn't been any recent program updates. I was playing several hours yesterday until around 5am this morning when I logged off. I only remember about 2 disconnects. Nothings changed on my end since then but now I'm getting disconnected every few minutes.

I only started getting disconnects a few days ago and its only today that its been every few minutes.

Well I've actually timed it now and it appears to be happening every 10 minutes. For the last 4 disconnects have been about 10 minutes apart. I'll do some more testing to see if the pattern holds.

    Hi Crono,

It's possible to have a faulty hop along the path yet still have a stable connection to other internet resources.

As it's fairly frequent if it's still happening I would use pingplotter to monitor your connection to gls.ddo.com and look for where in the route the issue lies - you can then go to your ISP with this information.

I find the fact that it just started a few days ago, and especially the fact that it happens at such refular intervals intriguing. Sounds offhand like something is "timing out" in some regular way.

In addition to this I'd also trace to google, youtube, or whatever other prime website that you visit.

For the last month I've been fighting 5-10% packet loss, and it was not within my house (not that the ISP believed me till finally they didn't send out a contractor) There was noise that was being introduced into my node somewhere external of my house. That loss pretty much forced a break from MMOs in general. Granted I could still farm and cook in lotro. So that crafter got work at least.

A little while after this my internet connection went down. I called my ISP (Time Warner) and there was a message that they were aware of the problem and were working on it. A couple hours later it came back up. I was thinking "Great, aslong as it was the ISP then it should be fixed now." Unfortunately it happened again shortly after logging back in and then again abit later so I gave up for the night. Thinking on it I'm wondering if my ISP is trying to implement some new protocol to combat file sharing. As you pointed out the regular intervals seems kind of fishy.

A couple of days ago they had this happen:

Time Warner malfunction cuts Internet to thousands on Sunday

    From wire service reports

    Posted: 08/28/2011 10:56:01 PM PDT

Internet and telephone service for thousands of Southern California homes and businesses went out for more than six hours Sunday, as one of the largest Internet providers grappled with a system-wide failure in its network serving Los Angeles, Orange County, the Coachella Valley and San Diego.
Time Warner Cable engineers said they found a malfunctioning piece of equipment at an undisclosed location "outside the state of California" and at about 1 p.m. began reprogramming routers to avoid the bottleneck, said company spokesman Jim Gordon. Repairs began to take effect in some locations immediately, and the entire system should have been functioning normally by midafternoon, he said. Gordon said the data interruption, which he said was intermittent, also cut telephone service for customers who use a Time Warner cable or fiber line for bundled Time Warner dial-tone phone service. VOIP service like Skype or Vonage was also affected.
Use the pingplotter tool to as I posted above to track down if you route through a faulty hop.

I don't know where you are located so you may not be directly impacted and the above might be unrelated but it highlights that only by tracing the connection to gls.ddo.com will you hopefully locate the issue, especially if your ISP is unaware or it is a consequence of their re-routing affecting only a minority and in this specific way.
