    Default Praise the devs!

NEW: Characters who True Reincarnate will now be able to immediately open quests on Hard difficulty, regardless of a player's account type. Characters who are on their second True Reincarnation will be able to open quests on Elite difficulty.

    Thanks

I am VIP, and I still think this is a good idea. I have lots of premium friends and I am glad to see that I still get a nice bonus on my first and second lifers that they do not get.

That said, I think that VIP should get more of a bonus. There should be some reason to entice premium players to go VIP, at least during the bonus (1000 free) TP months. But it's tricky to implement something like that. It can't be too good, or it's unfair (like this would have been, lol. Seriously, this was too much for VIP only, basically, to get bravery bonus).

But it has to be something good.

I'm thinking it should be free cosmetics. VIP's should be able to dye things, wear novelty hats, etc... all for free just because they're VIP. That makes it have nothing to do with XP or power, but it's still something a premium might want to do, subscribe for a month, make lots of cosmetic changes, then unsubscribe...

I just converted from VIP to Prem 2 months ago and spent a lot on buying everything. I also am just starting my first double TR. This news could not have been better for me

    Thanks Turbine.

Yeah, I have been reading some negative comments (imagine that) about this particular nugget on other threads and I felt like saying thanks. I have not been vip since ddo went f2p... and was very satisfied upon reading this one.

To be against it now is like howling at the wind, it will just get us nowhere.
Madfloyd thinks its a great idea and every premium and f2p player will of course agree
Now that they have released it to the wild they wouldn't dream of taking it away. At this point I simply can't find one real good reason to stay V.I.P. and am seriously contemplating going premium.

It was the ultimate compromise I think, and I am glad that they did this, even though I'm VIP myself and will stay that way. Glad to see that TR'ed toons will be able to take advantage of the exp changes

    Good job, Madfloyd.

    Good job, Madfloyd.
It's kind of amazing that a developer is in charge of the marketing department. I've often said that more tech people need to be in charge of the business function units. Although I wonder how he had time to do his dev job and lead the marketing department. I also wonder if he gets two salaries.

Don't think about it. Do it!

Really, you will save money in the long run. You know that, I know that, everyone knows that and it's not like we are getting anything special for our sub anyway. So stop paying money for nothing! and start planning!

I have already started to make a list of the packs and account options I plan to purchase, how much it will cost me, and how many points I have to play with. Which packs I plan to pay for at the onset, and which ones I can wait on.

Anyway. Stop pondering, and make the decision and be done with it.

They have made it clear, the VIP are not what pays the bills here, your not doing yourself or anyone else any favors keeping the sub, at this point you're just wasting money, money you could be spending on other things.

So start planning now. you have till your sub runs out to get your act together and make the transition as smooth as you can. You will be glad you did!

    Arko,

Please do so. You are a great contributor to these here forums and I, for one, would like to read your comments after converting.

    DDO is a great game.

F2P, VIP, P2P, PVP (even), PVE... whatever acronym you want to throw at it.

A compromise is when both sides gain something or both sides lose equally. here one side gained while another lost

I see less and less reasoning for me to stay VIP and it's clear that Turbine most likely makes more money on premium.

You're right! and now is the time to make that decision! Let the sub run out, (since you will not get a refund anyway) and plan for the transition. Make a list of the races you will need, the account options you must have, and the packs you absolutely can not do without.

Start planning now before the sub runs out. Stop thinking about it. and start doing it!

What, please tell me, did VIPs lose here?

VIPs retain first-life Elite unlocks. Premiums have to pay for each one, or pester VIP guildies.

VIPs gain near-total immunity to having Premium guildies hassle them with requests like 'hey, can you open Elite Tor/Hard VON3/Elite Shroud for my XP farming?'

VIPs retain a stipend of enough TPs per month to sustain 15% crafting XP potions all the time they are crafting, as well as 10% XP potions for most XP farming. Premiums will need to spend $ for those or go without (their favor points are probably used on new content packs, and money on new classes/races).
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.

I think there's an assumption in your post that VIPs are better for business than Premium players?

Of course I don't have the numbers, but the game has been far more successful since the 'hybrid' model of 'ViP + pay as you go' came in. One might suppose that perhaps the 'pay as you go' crew pump in similar amounts of cash (or more) than the vips?

Of course regular income is a good thing - but I read all these posts about the 'incentive' that is needed to make people ViP and wonder if that's even in the best interests of Turbine?

I have only ever been Premium but I have calculated that I'm not far off having spent as much money on this game as if I was VIP, so I think you are onto something here.

As I mentioned In Calebros thread, the onus is now on the devs and Turbine to keep bringing out more and good enough content that we are willing to pay for it wether we are VIP or Premium.
Fact is Premiums aren't freeloaders we pay for this game too and will continue to pay for it if the updates are good enough.
