    Default Rogue Suggestion: Tool Mastery

Got this idea from the Artificer Mastery line of granted feats, and their application of retaining charges on items.

I think that at every third level, Rogues should be granted a feat called Tool Mastery. This would grant the Rogue the chance to not expend a tool when they disarm a trap or pick a lock. It could use the Rogue's Int bonus, level, and and either their Disable Device or Open Locks skill to boost the chances to retain the tool.

    In theory this makes sense.

In reality, +5 picks are spammed throughout all the existing loot tables.

Would prefer the devs spend their time on something more meaningful.

    Just my 2 cents

In the middle of the road on this one. I like the idea because for instance farming Monastery, I had to fill almost an entire inventory page with tools to make it through. On the other hand with missing PrE's and such it's hard to justify anything that isn't actually needed. If there's a 'fluff' update, I'm on board.
There is no lag. Just because you had none before and can't play now doesn't mean the server move had anything to do with it.

The maybe front-load the feat so that newer players could still reap the benefits, and have it taper off post-level 12 as they get more common.

Not everyone has instant access to +5 tools, which was why I thought this suggestion might have some merit. And, it would be another way to differentiate between Rogue and Artificer, giving Rogues a slight edge when it comes to trapping/disabling.

I'm fine with it as long as it's easy to implement.

I still want the Mech PrE to have the following though:
    T1: Reduced Search Cooldown
T2: Automatic Detection when in range (no search needed) on successful roll
T3: Automatic Disarm when in range and with a no-fail disarm check (must take 1 to get the auto disarm)

If you're going to go T3 mech then traps should just fail when you look at them.

If the average rogue has a 90% chance to not use a tool, then I would not be opposed to their drop rate being reduced by at least 90%.

Especially since you can just craft your own tools now.

Alternatively, a +5 "returning" pick as raid loot would guarantee lots of all-rogue runs.

IMO while idea looks fair and right it alters aspect of the game which is minigless, its very easy to get FA favor for +4, and +5 drops quite often in high level content. And actually my rogues never run out of tools.

If something has to be done with Rogues, i would rather see any feat as class bonus ability, or some way to reduce fortificacion.

Nevertheless, idea of eternal golden pick of power +5 as a raid loot is great.
