Default Level 13 Stealer of Souls solo (no Sor'jek)

I figured I'd get SoS done so I could turn in all the Draconic Runes I've hoarded over the last couple years (before they go the way of desert tokens) at a really low level and get tons of renown for being such a brave little hobbit! But, nope, Tales of Valor at best. I'm not quite silly enough to try to solo Sor'jek as a dark monk(ish) at this level.

Can you give me some advice for soloing part III of SoS? As soon as I stepped inside the elementals killed me fast because my hireling kept bugging out and going through the lava floor. And mind you, this is with fire resistance.

If you need help from a hireling, you probably can't handle that section. Even if there was no lava, hirelings would DIE in there. Those fire creatures have DPS like nothing else in the dungeon.

Well, my hireling simply fell through the lava in part III unlike most other players, which was odd. If he could just jump over the ledges...ahh, but Turbine probably never checked this quest out for hirelings. Part I and II were easy with my hireling healing. Just had to keep him away from the mobs, and yet for some reason, always moved in to heal, like it was touch ranged or something. Part III, he couldnt heal me because the lava was in the way and he kept falling through, leading to my eventuall death. Oh, and when he finally managed to 'teleport' to the ledge, the fire elementals made a meal outta him. Even if my hireling could stay on the ledges and jump over, id still have to deal with the fire elementals hovering over the lava.

It's sad for me though that my solo run went better than a attempted pug run. It was so bad we only got to defeat one elder shaman in part I before the group wiped. :-( But, oh well. Guess I gotta get lucky on the pugs.

silver flame pots, healing amp, umd ..

not to take away from the accomplishment at lvl 13, even with the gear and all, it still takes knowledge and skill. ^^

Many first-life groups lose just from the timer alone. Even with infinite healing, I don't see how the dps of a single level 13 melee could do this. =S Not to mention Silver Flame potions reduce a monk's AC by 10 and slows his melee by 50%.

Have evasion, a decent reflex save, and dance around so you never get surrounded by efreeti; with resists, scorching rays and fireballs hurt less than does their melee. I have no idea how one would keep a hireling alive in part 3 (or keep them from getting thrown off in part 4). In the past, when my target was Sor'jek, I would leave my hireling in the main room until just before finishing off the final giant.

I mostly also had +1 from haste, +3 from barkskin, +4 from shield clickies, and +2 from being in wind stance instead of fire. Shadow fade and bouncing around so no more than one mob at a time can smack me around helps too.

My computer is older than ddo. Any higher res and my video card would melt.

I did use 2 lesser and one full silver flame pot during the fire boss fight. I have 5% amp from a paladin life is all; cunning and guile are too expensive to allow me fripperies like monk healing amp for now, and there's no healer on my ship at the moment. I have no ranks in umd this life - using the gloves for open locks and disable devices, heh. The few moments of lag every time I would swap gear or cause my umd score to change somehow in previous lives are just too obnoxious.

The wonders of normal difficulty scaling drop the trash mobs' hps to low enough where they can be finished off in less than the duration of a single stun. The only place I used silver flame pots I was also displaced and shadow faded, making ac not matter much anyhow. Silver flame pots only slow melee speed if the user's strength is low enough to move them into encumbered status; fortunately, Inedible is a mighty hobbit.
