From compedium, rapier is finesable so it is light wepon and OTWF does nothing for it...

Rapier is finessable but it is NOT considered a light weapon. Hence, if you equip dual rapier then OTWF will give +2 AB.

Alternatively, you could equip a light weapon to your offhand for occasions that you would miss though that isn't relevant to this conversation as there aren't any light weapons that I know of that use charisma for attack.

Hmm thanks on info i always considered rapiers to be light and i have never notice difference between 2x rap and rap + ss on mine dex rog :/

As for build i had eye on it before they anounced "fix" to edge - i have caped spellsinger with max cha atm im using eFlacata + L&D
Mine feat choice for build were 2wf chain, icp, pa, quicken, maxi, extend - no room for toughness or extend if you are going pure. And personly this build would be good with 36 pt and used at least 3 +3 tomes (on wich im working atm) ...

Only if you slot -asf, wield 7fingered gloves, or craft a lesser arcane dexterity item.

Also, I dont see many benefits of the pirate shield for a non-AC bard.

Actually, epic Elyd Edge with Tier 3 epic Swashbuckler is exactly what my bard is going to use.

You don't need an AC build to get good use out of it:
DR 8
Doublestrike 6% (with updated epic Elyd Edge, yes please)
Guardbreaking and riposte, okay
Superior parrying also grants +4 insight to saves, if the AC bonus isn't utilized
Exc dex 2, well +1 reflex anyway
Blue slot: fit with -15% asf crystal to even out
Get to shield block

For my 20 cha-based CC virtuoso bard, this shield will do the trick with my epic Elyd Edge. I have no room to fit twf feats, so one blade with shield will work well for my purpose, and this shield is a good one.

Same here! My 20-bard SS is a Enchanter / Healer / Buffer. Epic Elyd Edge will allow me to some DPS whend the time allow me. I will fight with a shield. I planned to craft a GSF mithral small shield of sup. stab. (with slot if I found one) but the Smashbuckler is a very good idea. If Crystal cove come back I will probably go get one. +1 for the info!

Even though I posted that some time ago, I still find it the best shield paired with the epic Elyd Edge. I actually find the guardbreaking procs pretty often and works on epic mobs. I sadly traded in my virt pre for spellsinger since I have TR'd my favored soul and felt spellsinger was a better asset to the party in eLOB. I get all my saves above 30 with the shield self-buffed (ship buffs + spells/songs), which is very nice.

I still recommend tier 3 epic swashbuckler slotted with -asf and epic elyd edge (which I slotted with good) as a strong combination for caster focused bards.
(Note: not that the combo can't be used by other builds, but generally a bard specc'd for DPS has the feats and better gear to accomplish better DPS than this. This is the best combo for my caster bard with zero melee feats to do some DPS when desired )
