    Default Me, Threnal, and hirelings

Like most players I try to avoid running Threnal.

This past weekend I decided to do the durn quests on ELITE and get the favor and the 25 TP.. I am on my level 15 cleric. I am over level, should be fairly easy, and I don't really know the quests at all. I will hire hirelings on an as needed basis.

I did cheat by looking at Threnal on the internet so I knew what was coming and where the traps MIGHT be.

I go at my own pace and if I need a break, I just take it.

A good learning experience for me. I don't mind doing this as I draw my maps and mark stuff down for the next time.

Parts 1 throiugh 3 were pretty easy. I did die once on Part 3 when I aggroed way too many bad guys and they trapped me so I could not jump out.

Part 4. Oh yeah, failed two times in the beginning because of the spawning mephits killing Coyle and his guards while I was clearing stuff. I now realize that the first part of that until you get to the FIRST trap box, stuff respawns. Mephits, Glass SPider, and a Rust Monster.

Part 5. I failed the first time because dear old Coyle charged in while I was running there. Another learning experience. Second time I placed him further away from the door so I could run there and get there before he charges in. Flesh Renderers respawn at the levers.

Part 6. OK. I knew this is the PITA, so I did it on normal. I hired a cleric here. I drank three mana potions and survived to the end. Maybe try it on hard next time.

Part 7. I hated this part. If there is a shrine in there, I never found it. I never died, but I did recall for mana. I did get lucky as the chest spawned fairly early and I could get the key.

Part 8. Another PITA. The worst part, it took me forever to hit the other switch to get the drawbridge to drop so I could finish.

    Part 9. Piece of cake.

As expected, no good loot. The only thing of interest is that on Part 3 on ELITE I pulled a Lightning Split Soarwood. A lot of the Alchemy Tables in all the quests drop Singed Soarwood.

    What did I learn?

    How to run Threnal.

    Lightning Split Soarwoods drop.

The Mystical Formula is used for Heavy Fortification.

Granite Gargoyles, I don't like them. What a pain they were.

Queen Glass Spiders, I don't like them. It seems when they are in egg laying mode
    they are invulnerable.

I learned that you knock Coyle out by bluffing him. I never knew that part before.

The best path to run for Part 7 and Part 8.

    I missed some treasure chests.

I took the Mantle of the WorldShaper and that was it and two mystical formulas.

    What do I do next?

I run it again and mark what monsters are where. Look for more treasure chest. Look for more shrines.

For me this series is on the run it once, and never again list. I have four quest series on this list, Catacombs, Sharn Syndicate, all of Three Barrel Cove, and Threnal.

I survived the scary events in 2009, 2010, and 2011. 2011 did not reward those that played by the rules.

Boring yes but it has some nice end reward items. I was running it for the Mantle, Spectacular Optics, and to try out Fernian Wraps. Look good for a Strength build Sun Stance Monk.

    I never pulled the wraps.

The wiki had some interesting info to speed this up. Run East once, than run West and South. To avoid running East abandon West which also kills South. Then run the 6 quests in West and South again to speed upon completion.

I believe The Quest Hold for Re-enforcements was one of the worst rated quests. 15 mins of defending this guy just to be killed at the last minute by a phantasmal killer unleshed by the hounds. :-(

The biggest issue isn't coyle or messing the chain but that it is a fairly long run.
