By now you have begun to craft in earnest for experience. No doubt your bags are bulging with newly crafted shards you have no intention of every combining with an item. DO NOT THROUGH THESE SHARDS AWAY.
Shards can be recycled into greater or lesser essences just like randomly generated loot (you just put it in the break down machine along with the proper reagent depending on whether or not it is a prefix or a suffix shard).
Anyway, I didn't realize this until I had destroyed a number of valuable shards. I spoke to a couple other crafters, and they didn't realize this either.
I think many crafters get full bags long before they are aware of all the crafting rules. Don't end up kicking yourself for destroying valuable shards!

Good to know. Last thing I read on this was that it shard decon was not implemented YET.
At least now I don't have to feel like I'm wasting things dumping my dozens of non used shards down the korthos sewers anymore.<-Curelite Bottling Company->

I would also considering holding off on crafting. Changes currently on Lammania provide a potential +20 to your crafting level if you level an Artificer with Dragonmarks of Making. At high crafting levels, this is a huge savings of XP, and by extension, essences. If you decide to start over with an Artificer crafter (likely a wise choice, especially if you're in the 10-30 range), whatever XP you earn now won't do you any good in the future, unless you're willing to TR your crafter into an Artificer.
