Default HTTP 417 - Site solution doesn't work

I came across this problem while launching DDO:

(this is what happens when I click "support")

So, I used the solution given for the "Web error while accessing the datacenter: The request failed with HTTP status 417: Exception failed." problem described here: http://www.ddo.com/ddosupport/knowledge-base

I'm not sure if it's the same one, because the translation is slightly different.

Anyway, it didn't work and my internet died until I changed my settings again, showing "HTTP 403: Forbidden" on the launcher this time. Any ideas?

"Falha da solicitação com status" was supposed to be something like "Status solicitation failure with status" and I use a wireless router connection if it helps.

Well looks like this is another McMMO with **** poor customer support.

Big surprise, another game that makes it difficult for themselves to make money or get new clients.

I was playing fine for quite a while, next thing I know, mine is doing the same thing on all my computers. I have a laptop and a desktop, both showed the same 417: expectation failed error. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, nothing, anybody have any ideas?

A quick trip to google might have yielded most of you an an anwer or clue (please get one) about what the issue is instead of acting like the user below to call ddo a "McMMO".

Firstly, I don't think McDonald's Corporation would appreciate you. Granted you are probably a spoiled little boy who has grown up on McDonald's and too much television because your parents chose not to raise you. Note I said probably, which may or may not be an insult to you and I don't care what it is either way.

An HTTP 417 error is on the CLIENT side. That means you are sending the data that the webserver doesn't understand. This could be due to a bug, or more likely it's a so called firewall or router that is adding this data and corrupting the connection.

Disable said software or reroute said computer and try again. If there is no issue, then you've found the problem. Now since you purchased said software or router feel free to call their technical support hotline and have them fix the issue for you.

    MsEricka,

Both client and server are DDO products.

If some client instance is returning protocol errors DDO should check the communication requirements.

To return a protocol error is, to not say too much, a "catch" failure from the DDO development team. Althought I could understand that "bugs happen", they must be verified and not just bypassed.

To blame the networking or user specific configurations is a politics that most entreprises are not embracing anymore. The user want to play the game not to fix the game.

That said, I should maintain my function: to play. And let DDO with theirs: to fix the game. That's a great deal! Even when one plays for free... and DDO knows that.

Any news as to whether a solution to this problem has been found? I'm experiencing the exact same thing.

I'm traveling overseas and am now getting this error. I suspect the ISP is blocking the connecting which is strange because I can play other games just fine. I'd like to know what DDO is doing that's so different from Guildwars or Counterstrike.

Try bypassing the router and connecting the computer directly to your modem. If that solves your problem, then you have a setting in your router at issue. Most likely a packet scheduling kind of thing.
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

I'm not sure what caused the 417 error, but the 403 error usually occurs if someone tries to play from a banned IP or range. You should only be seeing HTTP 403 on the launcher if:
    • You got IP-banned
    • You are using a proxy that got IP-banned
    • You are trying to join a server for another region
    • You are being blocked by a content filtering software
    Hope this helps!

Just another day in Korthos. (Not my character)

As the thread is 10 months old and Stoolcannon played today:
    http://my.ddo.com/stoolcannon/

I'd say it was resolved for the last active poster

Just saw this thread and don't want to go necro'ing everything I see like this, but...

The op's error code (417) is usually thrown when a client using .net libraries (ddo launcher client) sends EXPECT protocol messages through a Squid proxy. Squid, when configured with typical default settings does not answer these EXPECT messages in a manner the client software likes.

If you have control of the squid proxy (or other proxy which acts similarly), you can changed the configuration of squid to ignore expect messages. ('ignore_expect_100 on' config line).

Unfortunately, most users will not have control over this as it is usually ISP administered.

If the ddo launcher client can be configured to take a different route on to the internet (different client proxy settings or a direct connection), then this error may go away.

Of course, you may have different errors once you get past the launcher to the actual ddo client if you need to use proxies to connect.
