I think this would help alot of the newer players learn about their charactor before they break out to the general population and get frustrated when they have problems.Anyone remember Euphonia's challenge? Good for the basics.

/signed for class tutorials on character generation. (with an option in the UI to turn them off)
I know they've been working on the 101 guides in the compendium, which are actually turning out pretty good. Maybe an in-game link or having the URL somewhere in character generation would be a decent way of tying them in.
The in-game class tutorials are one of the things I miss most about the original Euphonia's Challenge and Smuggler's Rest. Really wish something like them had been added to Korthos. It'd be very nice to have them back.

A good idea.
Might take a little coding but how about adjust dialoge in the Grotto depending on class.
Rogue - Is taught about spotting and disarming the trap instead of just watching. Good sneak attack is mentioned before the fight.
Bard - is asked to buff with songs before the fight.
etc...
A friend will bail you out of jail.
A mate will be sitting in there beside you saying "**** that was awsome!!!"

Just dialogue giving you knowldge about your class. Currently, Rogue (and I would assume Artificer) are the only ones who get anything specialized, the rest is just figuring stuff out on your own, which isn't that great.

Hey Devs! Let's give Warpriests and Eldritch Knights some loving, kay? :<

All I remember about Euphonia's is that there was a spider or two and a maybe a pyramid or something at the end that you had to climb...
Anyway yeah, The Grotto is cool and everything but I've always said that there needs to be more class specific instruction.

Personally I wish they had never changed those starting quests. I found them actualy fun to play even after doing them many many times. I despise Korthos and dread everytime I do those quests. Doubt it will ever go back to what it was but the should at least do what the OP suggested.
My real forum Join date is July 2007. Maybe one day someone will develop the awsome technology to fix this currently unfixable bug.
it would be a good idea, just as long as they are not as bad as the class paths are, where new players might get bad advice or develope bad habits.
Actually, when I first played DDO, I fell in love with the game because of the Grotto. It felt so D&D to me, who had never had a chance to experience it. Hearing the way the characters spoke made me feel like I was actually at a D&D table.
And then that quickly disappeared once I left that quest and never came back, but I can still remember the magic of it all.

Loved these old quests, korthos is so...meh...
Wow - they actually had them at one point?
*** did they remove them?
I found this game amazingly hard to learn and just start going with as it is like nothing else I have ever played. It sounds like these would have made it much easier for me to understand what is going on and enter into the game - and I'm sure I'm not alone.
I wonder why they were removed?

Start at Groto, finish tutorial, get on boat, end up on Korthos ... makes sense to me.

I have an interesting idea, and a bit more into why your on your way to Stormreach, Start off in Khorvaire at the docks or something getting ready to leave, give you some basics on your classes depending on the class, then continues it when you get ship wrecked at Korthos Island, and have the tutorial continue in the grotto.
Yes, we need more voice acting beyond just the DM, I like the DM and all it feels very D&D, but also every NPC should have Voice Acting as well, kinda like Lotro has to a point. Even if some of it is just greeting vocals and that's it, it gives even more life to the game.

Bring back the class tutorials that were present in the Cove.
Compared to the Grotto they, actually made people learn what their character could do and could not do.
Just make it mandatory that you have to complete at least 1 tutorial ( I think it was, but I'm not sure ) before going on.
On G-Land : Flavilandile, Blacklock, Yaelle, Millishande, Larilandile, Gildalinde, Tenalafel, and many other...
I believe it would help new players learn the nuances of their charactor especially for stuff like monk or rogue or any caster class. It would (hopefully) make more competent players.

Add one for:
Rangers to help new ones learn when to range and when it may be better to melee.
Wizards/sorcs to learn aggro management and when buffing is important
Barbs to help them learn when it is important to quote their crit numbers no matter how rare
Pikers: Supply them with an acidy looking weapon so it looks like they have a Min II
