    Default Graphics problem

    I have graphics question/problem that anytime I start the game in windows mode, the game and the desktop looks washed out or brighter then before and I am not sure if it the game settings or my graphic driver. I have a Nvidia 8600gt (yeah know its old) and I have the drivers updated. It's been doing this for awhile now. I also have nice flatscreen monitor so I know its not that.

    Can anyone help?

    Hi Technoshaman,

    The brightness of the game when in winowed mode could be higher due to the desktop settings but it may be perception because of the bright blue frame around the borders - have you taken identical screenshots both windowed and full screen and compared them? because for me there wasn't a perceivable difference @1920x1200 with brightness/contrast/gamma all set to 1.01 in game

    If your monitor has seperate modes for gaming/movies you could try that but the difficulty will be that when you minise/close DDO the general settings will be darker so you'd need to switch back to general settings.

    This problem is still going on. After I open DDO client, my desktop gets all washed out (too bright). I often minimize the DDO client window to access my browser to check the wiki, and it is so hard to read the screen due to the brightness. No amount of adjusting my monitor's brightness helps.

    I can, however, fix the problem by opening the task manager and killing TurbineLaunchere.exe process, which stays open even after the program closes. The programmers should really have a look at this.

    ~~~ Edit ~~~
    Actually, killing the TurbineLauncher.exe process didn't work for me this time. I thought it had in the past, but that was a few months ago. Kind of sucks, because I really don't want to restart my computer right now. Anything on a white page (which is about 90% of the internet) is just flat out difficult to see. At least I can easily see this site, I guess.
    I believe the brightness is an effect of entering full screen mode that is supposed to be back to normal when you alt-tab to desktop.
    (when alt-tab back to the game you'd see the desktop going bright in the moment before the full screen kicks in)
    Not clue what can be done about this, google search turned up similar cases but no solutions.
    Try see if the bright still happens when you use alt-enter to go into windowed mode.
    If all fails maybe stick to the in-game browser to check the wiki, as temporary workaround.
    Also turbinelauncher should be closing when ddoclient starts up, which is the one that enters full screen.
    I have the same problem ever since but I am ok with it.
    There is another problem tho - this effect persists even when my client crashes (which is quite often lately) and the only solution seems to be system restart.
    It is extremely annoying
    In my case, it happens every time I run DDO, and persists after I log out of the game. The only thing that seems to fix it is logging out of the current Windows user account. Usually.
    I suspect there is a process I can kill that will fix it, but I have no idea which one. Any thoughts?
    google for: reset gamma after game crash
    common solutions:
    * restart computer
    * log off user, log back on
    * right click on desktop, properties, settings, advanced properties - click on the tab that says your card's name and there you should find a color tab
    if you google for the name of your graphics card + gamma, you might more specific instructions
    It's a known issue that's never been fixed.
