Fighter VoD solo - Kelida of Cannith - First ever?

At 7am EST this morning, August 17, 2011, I finally succeeded in solo-ing VoD on my fighter after about a dozen attempts. 8 hours spent to get enough Deathward clickies from Tangleroot. =D You have to understand that such a feat is not the same as soloing on a FvS or even a paladin. Cha is not a prime ability score for fighters, and I have to rely almost completely on my poor use of heal scrolls. No quickened, empowered, maximized heals or cures. No torc + conc op combo. The majority of the time I died, it was from lag from switching to my clickies. For some weird reason, DDO has some ~serious~ lag issues when you switch to certain items on your hotbar. This morning, I did a fresh reboot, turned off all chat programs, turned down graphics to "very low", draw object distance to "low", and noticed, for the first time ever, minimal lag during item switching.

This made all the difference in the world because when the bats attacked, everything has to be clicked at exactly the right time. 30 second displace scroll, recitation wand, GH scroll, deathward clickie, haste potion, heal scrolls, cure serious potion, cloak of ice, shield wand etc.

I can now finally get back to real life now that my obsession is over. =D 70 heal scrolls (75% activation), 23 cure serious potions, 5 GH scrolls (2 failed), 6 of each yogo pot of Wis, Dex, and Cha, 3 fireshield cookies, 4 fire protection cookies.

I'll be the first to say congrats to your triumph over Sally. Takes dedication, planning and patience to solo vod on a melée. But to answer your question, no it's not the first time a melée has solod vod. Been done many times, including myself on khyber (granted that was when the cap was 16 and alot of changes since then, but AC still viable in vod.) But either way congrats on your accomplisment.

Getting quite boring seeing only Casters like Evoker Fvs or PMs soloing stuff!

grats! its definitely a bit more impressive with someone who cant power their way through a raid with majors (with finite sp meant to be a casters only weakness). that being said i believe satureon solod VoD on his 18/2 wf ac fighter. somewhere in this section. a couple questions? why no power attack on during ship buff duration? i didnt see it on your bars so maybe you couldnt fit it on which is primarily an ac focused build. just curious because at 81 ac sacrificing the 5 on a normal vod still puts you at only getting hit on a 20 but would increase your dps substantially. maybe had shaved off enough time to keep your ship buffs almost the entire raid? :P

oh ya and for easier accessible DW (since festival just ended) you could have got the dw jellies! 10 minute duration and you dont have to run 500 TR haha

Yea, I know Satureon has managed to do this almost half a year ago.

Well I know it's the first ever on Cannith, that's for darn sure. And, I was reffering to Fighter specifically, not melee. I know plenty of paladins have done it, and I hear tale of even a ranger, all of which can benefit from the Conc Op + Torc combo though. The only healing spell I have is cure light, and that's not gunna do anything. lol.

Concerning Power Attack, I don't have it. I always have Combat Expertise on. I'm main tank for just about every raid, and AC is still viable even against Horoth on norm. If I need to dps, I have rogue dillitante. Sully is hardly a problem. It's more of the countless trash mobs, the exploding bats especially.

About the jelly cakes, I ran out of them on previous failed attempts. ;( And no one was selling any in the AH or trade channel.. So I had to resort to 15 Tangleroot runs lol.

P.S. You're a beast! For you to even notice I don't have power attack...

You still got lay on hands and a high umd from cha bonus. And the majority of levels as pali. I solod it on a 12 ranger 2 fight 2 monk and didn't have alot of the goodies we have now days. But I had a 32 umd with swaps and a 91 AC. But that's when the tempest ac stacked with shield wands heh. Now as for a cannith first idk. I know I never went to the forums with accomplishment posts minus beating the abbot when it was broken and unbeatable without the uses of unsaid exploits.

My paladin levels are just for the 100% hate enhancement. I assure you the (1) lay on hands I used from my (6... this is somehow a majority?) paladin levels did not make or break my victory. ;p~ For the purposes of this solo, I'd rather have been an 18/2 build with 4 more AC and 3 more feats. (1 from Defender 3, 2 from ToD ring, 1 from better Defensive Stance)

But with the way intimidate works after update 9, the 100% hate is a must-have to keep up with barbarians for normal day-to-day raiding purposes.

Drat! You were 3 min faster than my S&B paladin! Congrats. I know how it feels to beat it on a more melee based toon. One thing that effects your "lag" when you are swapping between hotbar items, is how often you have changed toons from when you first logged on (and the client is restarted fully). If you first log onto that toon, you shouldn't have any issues. My paladin is the same way. If I switch over to one of my other ones, then go back, there is a good 1-3 second lag between equiping say scrolls and then again back to a weapon.

But if you think it is hard to balance a fighter, try rolling up a straight paladin. A lot less feats, more stat points to spread around. yikes!

Yeah I do a fresh restart of the client before each attempt. I still had super lag during the other attemtps though. Yeah.. I don't get how I only beat you by 3 mins when I duel wield. lol

Well done, there are only a handful of us melee to do this. Nothing worse then forgetting a clickie particulary a dw one and fighting below level .
Part of you lag problem was probably the bunny hat as it only adds umd when u switch to scrolls and wands so your character sheet update and recalculation happens when switching.

Still I wish I had even 75% chance of scroll use when I did it on my ranger/fighter.

Awesome job. I've been planning on tackling this on my barb for months just to see how far I could get but I've never gotten around to it. Now I can't say I was first you sonofa....

I'm still gonna make it happen someday. My only problem is that after a year of playing and countless VOD's I STILL don't know how to activate the bridge (Yeah yeah switches something or other).
