Default Caution: When teleporting, have feather fall.

I was in the crafting hall in House D, and selected to teleport to The Portable Hole. Apparently there was some sort of malfunction, and I ended up hundreds of feet above the Marketplace.

Be sure you have a feather fall item when teleporting!

This is the first time it happened to you?

I know what folks said bout join dates, but I've experienced this probably 10 times, and that's only on 1 character which can use teleport scrolls!

    OOPS!

Happened to me many times - yes FF can be a lifesaver - I tend to try out my HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) Skills and cast it a few feet from landing ^^

It's just a bit of random magic
The true test is being able to cast teleport and get the hell out of there before you go crunch.
EDIT: okay, I took down the OOPS picture so it will be nice for people to see it the first time.

My demands are simple. Ducks, penguins and tortoises as pets. I'll buy hats and bow-ties for them all.

...only to end up right where you started. Yep, that has happened.

Happens to me at least once a week. It's mildly annoying, but I have ended up with a Loading Screen of Death when trying to teleport out again before. :P

This is WAI. There is a small chance (~5%) that you fail your teleport in this dramatic way. Just cast teleport again, when you are falling.

    Nice photo =D +1

5%?? wow! I must have terrible dice luck then.
I get this 1 out of every 5 times I teleport or so.
At first, I thought it was a bug. Then after reading the Oops screen, I realized it must be a built in feature. Kinda funny the first time, because you're like.. what the ???!!??

Can still suck for permadeathers if they aren't careful - especially if they are foolish enough to teleport out of an explorer area without a full health bar.

Or you could just take the 80 or so damage the fall does, and shrug it off, like any caster worth their salt, that are high enough level to cast or UMD teleport.

OT, but nice color combo with the shiny purple WF and the shiny green docent, somehow insect-like. Considering the context I shall dub thee ...

No FF is much faster and only does about 70 damage anyway

can be a pain in the ass when my monk gets an oops using a royal guard mask, takes forever to land with slowfall, and it still doesn't turn off!

Greater Teleport doesn't have the failure chance, but can only be used inside a dungeon/raid/explorer area.

You don't need ff for this.
You can recast teleport before touching the ground, you have plenty of time before getting to the grounds even without ff, and even if you don't it's probably not going to kill you.

Personally I find this very funny and I'd like more spells to have some kind of critical failure chance. Maybe when we get the Wild Mage PrE...
It gets annoying when it happens twice in a row, though.

See, this wouldn't happen if you just took the /death train.

You have enough time to cast it again and the fall is not auto death like it used to be.
