Default Shard of Xoriat vs Epic Rodericks Wand

So on a couple of epics I've brought in a Shard Pet. So far, these pets really do quite well. (quite well = lasting 30 secs or longer) Making me wonder if I should go and get an epic woderick wand.... Any thoughts on how the two compare on epics?

epic rodric's just summons lvl 9-4 summon creature spells, not worth while imo. another point - there should be an edit signature button in your user control panel (CP) so you can put all of that stuff without it being quoted like here.

Roderick's wand will grant augment summon soon(tm).

Just so you know. Could be useful in hound. Or to boost any other summoning item.

Why would a pet be useful in Hound? Wouldn't it potentially attack a puppy, throwing a wrench in the works?

Oh, you won't use it for the clicky.

Holding it grants Augment Summoning post U11.

It won't be for the pet.

It will be for the Augment Summoning feat that the new version of Roderic's Wand will grant while held. That will give the dogs you charm +4 to all stats, along with increased health and fortification. It will make a noticeable difference in the DPS and survivability of the charmed dogs.

That said, there is a rumour that Bezikera and possibly other "dog" type pets can also break Xyzzy's DR, and the Roderic's Wand can summon them.

I would wait until after update 11 comes out before making an Epic Roderic's Wand. It's supposed to grant the Augment Summoning feat when held after the upgrade.

I much prefer the Shard of Xoriat. The Mindflayer especially. My guild group usually runs epics with 2-4 Mindflayers and Beholders summoned at almost all times, and the Flayer especially works well in epics. It does a small bit of spell DPS, but can also stun and insta-kill trash.

Along with Prismatic Ray/Spray, and Trap the Soul weapons, a disabled orange name can have its brain eaten. Not sure if Void 4 still works on orange named epic mobs.

Epic Wolf Whistle is another contender for the best summoning toy in the game.

That Thrakk Hound can survive Velah's breath.

Rodrick's Wand pets will last 10 min verses the Shard's 5 minutes - however, the little known fact that the Shard is not exclusive allowing for more charges if you have enough Shards.

Addendum: RE: Wand in Hound - It would be an exercise in caution to keep the wand equipped in hound, as the default keybinding for using the wand is a left-click in the open UI spaces, resulting in an undesired summoned pet. Unbinding "Attack/Interact: Mouse 0" this would solve this, but would mean you can't hold down the mouse button to auto-attack or utilize other wand charges. It has been rumored that you only need to keep this item equipped for the act of summoning/charming a creature and the augment will be in effect for the duration, but it must be tested for confirmation.

You can put it in your off hand to avoid accidentally activating it.

Just checked, you're right. No off-handing them for the bonuses, so you'd just have to be careful about not triggering them.

Until the devs change it, getting a Bezikera off an Epic Roderic's Wand isn't a terribly bad thing in HoX.

If you wait until you have 3 pups charmed then summon the pet it's fine, seen it lots.

The epic roderics wand can summon a hezzy, which is why I have it.Also the xoriat shard has to be recharged via a rest shrine while the epic rowdy roddys wand recharges one charge per min.I seldom if ever use the xoriat shard but I would if I could have 2 pets at once.

Question (and I should know the answer to this)

If I have the actual Feat that will add "damage and health"/Augment summonings, will that significantly improve the dogs enough that I could be the primary charmer, and thus bump up the dogs every 3 days or so?

I know that seems a bit drastic for a feat slot, but it could be worth it on a Human Wizard-Necro build.

as that is the only thing that is based on who summons the dogs, actually having the feat should be the deciding factor to make you the designated summoner.

of course, have fun persuading the leader that it doesn't actually *have* to be the bard :P

Definitely go for the epic roderic's wand. Seriously, it's awesome.
