Person becomes real life millionaire from second life.
Not having played second life im not realy sure how this is possible, and or if it realtes to the general mmo and or ddo world. Just thought this was interesting and was wondering about the communities thoughts on this.

It is possible because secondlifes currency is trade able to UD$. Same as EVEs online currency.

she did it buying and developing virtual land if i remember correctly. I stopped playing when the Secondlife market crashed.

Second Life has in game cash that can be traded for real cash, and vise versa. While it is predominantly a 3D chat engine, just about anything you can think of can be done in Second Life. Objects and scripts can be created in game and sold to other players. Someone with a lot of dedication and a little know how can certainly make bank, as that person did. Your article is from 2006, though, so theoretically one can make more money working on Android / iPhone / Windows Mobile apps these days. Depends on your cup of tea, though!
