This is why:
* I don't use social networking unless absolutely necessary
* If it becomes necessary, I use a throwaway alias and never ever post pictures.

This is why I won't participate in Turbine's Facebook promotions.
So far, none of them have been worth even the marginal bother to set up a dummy FB profile - so I'm not missing much. But still... it's the principle of the thing.
this is the future, and it smells bad.
Personly despite being quite the techy i wont have anything to do with social networking unless its bussiness related.

IMO, once they stop using this rule, that's when things shift from "moderately annoying" to "Orwellian".On the bright side, Social Intelligence Corporation can only see content you have made public, meaning if your*Facebook page is only open to friends, they can’t and won’t see it.
I hesitantly agree with this ruling, since all it is stating is that anything you share with the public can be used against you. Anything you wan to keep private cannot be used against you. It means the people should actually start keeping private details private instead of sharing them with the world.
Once they start looking into private details with impunity is when people should start worrying.

Who in their right mind would open a Facebook account and then claim any expectations to a "right of privacy"?
I'm just not convinced that asking information be kept "private" really does result in that information being protected. After all, credit card numbers are given out with the understanding that they be kept "private", yet we hear of security breaches in which the numbers are stolen all the time. I'm just a bit too paranoid to risk it.

I take a different approach than most people. I secure what I can on my end, then figure anyone who really wants the information is going to get it anyway. I live as openly as possible and trust I'll be ok. If something goes wrong, I'll deal with those repurcussions as necessary.
Once upon a time, I was part of a team, and we saved some children. That was long ago and far away, and, yes, I am that old.
