Consider making Threnal F2P

I really think Turbine should consider opening Threnal up as a F2P area.

Reasons:

• No one hardly ever runs it.
• It's long. If you do manage to get a group, there's a pretty decent chance they're going to get sick of it after the east and west ruins, and then you'll need to hope and pray you can get a group together at a later date for the southern ruins.
• It fills in a very nice f2p gap at level 8, 9, and 10 with two 8th level quests, 3 9th level quests, and 4 10th level quests.
• The other little "quests" in the zone can be fun, but no one ever runs them, except as solo quests.
• f2p players should be able to pay their respects at Dave's shrine.
• Everyone needs to experience the joys of keeping Loyle Coven alive!

As a 'premium' player who's purchased everything except the latest Xoriat offering out of U10, there are just 2 packs I really regret purchasing:

Catacombs (zzz) and Threnal (just not fun)

As a player who's purchased everything except horc and helf, and the very latest pack (cos I'm VIP at the moment so can't, grrrr), I concur. Even though it would mean I'd 'wasted' my money, Threnal ought to be F2p.

• Its hard to get a group, but I actually quite like the quests (except for that quest).
• The fact that its hard to get a group suggests people aren't buying it anyway. So you may as well make it free anyway!
• Its quite good XP,
• Its got reasonably decent loot (as well as the mantle!).
• The mantle means that if this was F2P people would be even more encouraged to buy Deleras so they could get the set.
• It starts to properly teach about outsiders and such
• Its good plot
• The arena is tough at level if unprepared, which is another good place to teach the true F2P crowd some lessons before stuff really ramps up in a couple of levels time.

Yeah. Make it free.

I just baught threnal and cant find a group cant solo the rescue (i hate quests where i have to save npc's) as its too hard to kill everything and keep thier weak selves alive also, a group would make this fun, but all of my guild is F2P

I'd prefer 3 barrel cove to be made f2p first as in my view it's the second best explorer in the game after Orchard.

No loot worth paying TPs for and we already have Delera's, Sharn, Tangleroot, STK, Phiarlan Carnival and Necro 1 at this lvl with Necro 2 and Sorrowdusk coming up quick.

I think it should be ftp but for this reason,i cant see them doing it..their a business,and business don't like to give refunds in my exp.I can just see it now..It goes ftp then a mass of posts wanting their money back

I recently purchased Threnal, it was one of the few packs I had left to buy.

Anywho - I ran it once, on elite for Favor & Mantle... Never again, it makes me wonder if my TP should have went towards Attack on Stormreach instead. It's just not worth it imo.

When LOTRO went F2P it came with 3 zones opened up to all players. The 4th zone onwards you had to pay for. After a while they droped the 4th zones down in price perminantly. Then eventualy they just tosted it in with the rest of the free stuff. There was no refunds. But hardly anyone complained about it and they quickly got over it as it generaly gave back more TPs that it cost to get the zone.

If they do discide to add current P2P content to the F2P list then there will most likely be no refund and I would not blame them. You might get a free XP boost or something but not what you payed for it.

I do not own or know the mission pack being talked about so I can't comment on weather it should be free or not. I had no trouble getting past L7 though. Where I got stuck was L11 and that has been fixed with the Lordmark plaza missions.

It'd be bad and awkward to do that with a pack that many people have already spent money on.

Instead they should improve Threnal to be more worthwhile as a P2P area. Step #1 of that process is improve the named loot available, especially the Threnalian Warblade. Step 2 is to straighten out the chain progression mechanics, and 3 is to equalize the combat difficulty between east and west.

meh, your refund will be that you might be able to find a party now. If they gave me 10% of base value back I'd be more then satisfied. I paid for it, so I could use it. It going F2P does not change that. I still got to play it in the past, and enjoy the loot from it, and I will in the future.

either make it f2p for all, or if keeping it p2p give it a serious overhaul - the overall concept, theme & story of the pack i rather like, theres decent xp & some nice items too.. its just certain aspects of the actual mechanics of the quests that are unpleasant & really detract from it.

Threnal...where to begin.

As it stands, it's one of the worst purchases you could make.

• A few parts are good experience, the rest is horrible, with East 3 being the worst in the game (even behind the improved Gladewatch).
• Like Tangleroot and Sorrowdusk, the level split and range of the quests can further harm your experience potential.
• It's a frustrating experience, with the amount of babysitting of absolutely horrible NPC's. The mixture of mobs leads to a lot of equipment swapping, and the Glass Spiders cause an incredible amount of dungeon alert even when killing everything in sight.
• The loot, besides the Mantle, and to a lesser extent the Fernian Wraps and Retribution longsword, is very poor when compared to most of the newer items (a fate shared by Sorrowdusk, Tangleroot, and even nowdays Deleras, where only 1-3 items are of any worth while everything else is just worthless).
• Flagging is VERY touchy, it's incredibly easy to select a wrong menu option and reset your chain completely.
• The chain is 9 quests, some of which are quite long, so it's hard to keep a PUG together long enough to complete it. This was touched on in the OP.
• The four side quests do not give favour, making the overall worth of a pack less valuable.

Threnal, more than anything else, needs a complete overhaul to make it a desirable area. It is not really fit as is to go F2P, because it would give a bad impression of the game to newer players. It's not really fit to stay P2P as is because the frustration is not really worth the cost.

mmm, I dont know. The loot in Threnal is very powerful compared to free stuff at that lvl. If people dont want to run it for loot, they are missing out.

Retribution - +1 Longsword: Holy, True Law, Pure Good (requires: Lawful Good alignment or UMD 20) (ML: 6)
Spectacular Optics - Goggles: Reflex Save +4, Protection +3 (ML: 9)
Thanatos Weave - Robe: Deathblock, +2 Armor Bonus (ML: 6)

I think the issue is more that, like many quests in this level, it is easy to level right past Threnal without running it.
