No. DDO outlived NWN1 and it will outlive NWN2.

no. Just Hasbro trying to pressure more money out of the D&D Licence.

A lot of D&D PnP players didn't like the Eberron setting and were more than unhappy with Wizard dropping Forgotten Realms as the D&D world.

Hasbro is just trying to reach that market share.

Actually I never really understood why the have choosen Eberron setting for DDO. Forgotten realms is way better. But maybe it´s just me becuase I have 75 forgotten realms novels at home and I love them.

AND! I played Icewind dale series, Baldurs gate und NWN of course..

AND! there are still no Remorhaz and icedevils in DDO!

At the start of DDO, Eberron was WotC's new born, their only "original" world, all the others they inherited from the previous edition and they didn't like that so much.
That's why that licence was far easier and cheaper to secure.
We've seen with 4ed what they did to all the other licence (including FR) : basically a reboot, all that was cannon is no more. (In FR, the only thing still there is Elminster...).
So really not afraid at all of that new NeverWinter.

    /agreed

when I compare the "old" novels and the new ones which is like D&D 2 and 4 there is now not much left of the "old" FR

but well maybe it´s just the same thing like: "The new thing it is BAD!" .. ?

Personally, I can't stand the "reboot." I think it has killed PnP. Even though I also don't think 4.0 edition is actually PnP - it is more like a card game where you play a card to use a power. Freaking casters don't even have spells - they have rituals...

And I hate that the entire Forgotten Realms setting was basically wiped out and rebuilt because of the Spellplague.
All on Thelanis: Archenpaul Sixblade (Epic Triple Completionist), Archernicus Thornwood, Crestellin Moonwood, Gregorovic Redcloak, Jaklomeo Evermug, Jarladdin Nalfesne, Jonathraxius Kane, and Praetoreus Silvershield (Heroic Triple Completionist, Epic Triple Completionist.)

Leader of Guinness Knights (Level 165), which is (since June 2021) a two-man, father-son guild.

    Cogito ergo summopere periculosus.

*look at the rambling about FR reboot*

Glad I stuck mostly to Mystara ( a.k.a. Known World / Hollow World ) for my D&D.

    Whut?
FR is just a standard fantasy, with no unique things, not to mention in past couple of years all game developers was abusing it.

Well, having a fast look, it doesn´t seem to be a MMORPG computer game, it seems a MMORPG PnP game.
    or am I wrong?

    ^THIS^

I preferred doing my own world-building, and running in my own world, and found Forgotten Realms to be Forgettable Realms, and lets just say That FR franchise fiction is not my favorite. (Though I do have the Gord the Rogue novels by EGG, )

    Agree.
I of course used some FR books, but only to strip them of all cool feats spells and game rules.

IF Daggerfall is any indication...I am not worried about NWN2.

Well, considering how long Forgotten Realms has been around (late 80s/early 90s?), it's only surprising that Drizzt hasn't died of old age even before now.

When I DMed, I usually ran either Greyhawk or a campaign setting from a company called Judge's Guild with a few personal twists. I'm much more of a fan of D&D in general than Eberron specifically (it's....OK as a setting). If it's a good game, the setting will be secondary to the mechanics. Not a distant second, mind, but still second.

I prefer the forgotten realms setting as well, however...

Eberron was a nice little new setting people barely new about, which makes it easier to make a game based on without garnering too much criticism. Everyone already has their own vision of what they believe FR is, and had they based their game in FR, people who disagreed with how the game portrayed their favorite heroes would be up in arms about it, due to the length of time that lore has been present and the number of people intimately familiar with it.

Stats in FR are also not min maxed and optimized for NPCs.

I have a feeling they arent dead. Wulfgar is now in the same little reality pocket as Cattie Brie and Regis, even though he expected to wake up after his death in the halls of Tempus. I think its a matter of time before they are all summoned out of it....

I mean hell, they have all practically died once now, heh.

Am I the only one that likes eberron better?

You can't do twilight forge or prison of the planes on FR

btw, the game needs more insane puzzles and quests full of insane bosses to solo on elite
