Soloing Tomb of the Unhallowed

Is it possible to do this quest with just yourself and a hireling? I got stuck at the first gate, where it seemed that the 2 levers had to be simultaneously pulled, and only someone with a red gear in their possession could activate the levers. I could find no way to get my hireling to retrieve a gear from the chest. Is there some work around?

I might be wrong, but is that the icy quest thing that is REALLLY *badword*?
Then you just have to unlock the lever and interrupt the lever pulling, then place your hireling at the lever, walk around go to the other lever and pull it and make your hireling pull the unlocked lever.

took me and a friend 15 minutes to find out that you can unlock the lever and then interrupt, so the lever remains unlocked...

Step 5: Go all the way around to lever 2
Step 6: Unlock and pull lever 2
Step 7: Quickly tell your hireling to pull lever 1.

Not sure if it works, but a wise cow once told me thus. If it doesn't work, than you'd need to have 2 simultaneous accounts, or a party member.

This method still works, just last week or week before last soloed it with hireling.

If the gates don't open, just give it time. I told my hireling to "Come here" and it took what seemed like a very long time for the gates to open but they did open.

Thats because the gates are on a timer, in case you can't kill all the monsters (which also opens the gates right away). IIRC, killing all your own monters will open your side so you can continue and leave the hireling there till the next gear set, does it not? I haven't run that quest in a year I think heh.

You have to wait for the hirelings' gate to raise up and then kill the mobs on that side before the main gate will raise..unless the hireling can kill them all. I just leave the hireling at the lever until I need him at the next one.
