    Default Full Plate AC

Right, there seems to be this mentality at the moment that the only way to get a decent AC that works is to take monk levels. This means loss of a capstone and possibly a loss of DPS and is also completely not true.

Now before any of you go saying that the charecter is useless as i have invested so heavily in AC that i cant do damage any more here is a screen shot of me main tanking horoth no problems at all.

This Paladin is a pure DoS build 6 months old and still has a lot of equipment to get before he is optimal and can reach the 112 AC that is achievable on him.

Now no more of this AC tanks are gimps and we should all make pure DPS toons if you please

For the nit pickers that complain about buffs

    !End Game!

AC In DPS Mode (Thats Two Weapon Fighting with PA doing as much DPS as possible and holding agro in places such as Tod)
    = 66

    AC Sustainable Self buffed
    = 89

AC When the heavens are aligned and it all goes my way
    = 104

AC for when i want a max Screen Shot
    = 112

That is awesome! I would love to see the character plan.

What kind of AC were you able to attain at mid-levels?

lvling up i normally just went for full DPS, im not a person to equip the toon as it lvls. i just sort it all out at around lvl 17.

Usually i was on around 50 AC then could always boost it up for a boss whilst lvling up

This works for the academic thought-exercise, but I personally really dislike including this in any "workable" or "sustainable" AC strategies. You need to be swinging, not tumbling.
Ghallanda - now with fewer alts and more ghostbane

    hmm is pretty cool.

i always though that any action besides tumble will break the AC bonus. its no longer that? swing makes keep your 4 AC?

    Impressive. gratz^^

Imo there are 2 ways ac is currently non-optimal.

    1. High end ac is not enough for epics.
    2. Mediocre ac has the same effect as 0 ac at high/highish levels.

Your build and some others show that problem number 1 is not necessarily a big one.

So that 102 is really 90, thanks that adds up. Boosts are not sustainable for anything more than a screenshot. And +4 for tumbling, really?

Ok, have it your way, substract 12 from the equation... An AC of 100... not too shabby.

Anyways, OP, are you swinging? or stepping up from tumbling? did you tumble beforehand? how then does the mobility feat work? a certain amount of time after the tumble?

The tumble thing only applies while you actually are tumbling . . .but the number stays on your view until you refresh it.

Don't get me wrong this is still great, 90 AC is about what can be hit on a tank as a sustainable number for something that puts out enough threat that they can hold aggro over full-****** DPSers. I'm curious as to how he's going to fit Abishai on this build as I don't see him having the slots free to do so.

Also, you clearly don't have 102 ac while tanking. Tumble has a display only bug that shows ac after you stop tumbling but if you close your sheet and reopen the actual numbers are shown. In the Ac screen shot you have a shield on. In the tanking image you don't.

Any one of my toons would pull aggro off you without any effort at all, your threat-per-second is so dramatically low with that gear layout that anyone but fresh first-life 20s will suck aggro off you within seconds.

Ultimatelly AC is still a viable option in tod. In fact it makes it rather trivial.

That has never been an argument---- let me restate that so its clearly understood----

Noone has ever max ac usless when it comes to main-tanking horoth.

Ac is usless in epics. 200 ac would still be usless in epics. Why? because:

    - you cant keep aggro on all the monsters
    - much of the damage is magical
    - you cant keep aggro on all the monsters
    - you can not contribute in any other way
    - you can not keep aggro on all the monsters
    - your lack of dps makes you a piker, very painfull in a 6 man party
    - you can not keep aggro on all the monsters
    - you have absolutely nothing else to bring to the group, an undergeared dps build would be more valuable

AC is and always has been viable in non-epic quests. AC defenders tend to enjoy arguing as though that were ever a debate. It's not. Now, please show me how all that ac (which is lower then you claim but so what) is useful in the majority of epics?
    Eulogy- oh ninety eight
