Ye hit points would be low (hardly over 400 sustainable with a yugo con pot)

PK sla... humm i've heard some people use it once TRed, but having both will & fort saves to break makes me doubt about its efficiency in the high end.
On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero

why would you ever use PK when you can use Finger? Illusion is a pathetically weak school (the devs have too much to do with too little money). archery is a weak combat style even for Rangers, you don't need AA to do any of the things that AAs can do because... you're a wizard, harry. the Arcane Archer is a ****astic PrE, and simply needs a complete overhaul to make it even worth considering.

that said, if you simply must be a piking burden to your groups, you know you can do just about as well without the AA PrE enhancements? elves can use bows just fine. you'll never hit anything as a pure wizard, whether you're an AA or not, just so you know. your class's BAB is important. what you must take into account is how many of your shots will simply miss during the time period it would take you to put out enough arrows to be worth the SP cost versus that of an Archmage's SLA. for example, the Magic Missile SLA is great to compare against. then take into account the metas which don't apply to arrows (so far as i know), but do to SLAs...

you're talking about half an hour of string-plucking here. and spreading it all around so thinly, too. so you hit one monster in each encounter for, what, 12 damage?

if you're counting on the vorpal arrows... 500 damage is pretty meh at level 20, and having a <5% chance to proc it... your PK will have a higher likelihood of killing the things you see at level 20. and let's not forget that you can't cast Finger while you're throwing your "slaying" arrows, either.

Arcane Archer is the perfect way to render an otherwise perfectly capable wizard into a roaming -10% xp menace.

    - no HP
    - no STR & Bow Strength
    - no Improved Precise Shot
    - a BAB of 10 giving you a whopping 2 arrows during manyshot

I think you guys are missing the point. It's obviously horrible.

    Look at le name.

Just funny that if there was an ACTUAL arcane archer, it would suck horribly.

EDIT: That being said, I'll probably roll one up for the fun times.

Arcane Archers are not completely useless..

They are actually good dps if geared and STR based.

Dealing about 120 base damage an arrow, 250ish on a crit, 750ish on a roll-20.

Manyshot is the best burst DPS in the game.

Edit: During Mid Levels they are also viable CC, Wield a paralyzing bow and tab through targets paralyzing 4-6 enemies before the melee even reach them.

Show me an AA that gets 120 on an normal arrow and ill be well impressed.

    I hit for 80/90

And that yields a Crit approaching 300

And yes i think their is a bit of tounge in cheekness about this thread

After all it is a true Arcane Archer. Didnt say anything about being any good

This is what I dislike so much about build forum posts.

All these hypothetical numbers mean jack squat in 90% of any practical situations.

Zexxi's number is most likely alot more reliable, but then again, his build is another story entirely.

    Exactly.

So if you have Tr'd 5 Times

Have every Epic item and Tod set

Including Epic Mari Chain and Thornlord

(of which i believe i am the only true ranged build to have both on my server Atm so this is unlikely)

Obviously someone will now prove me wrong but that is fine

    Happen not to have aggro

Using a shed load of 1 minute clickies

Every weird and wonderful pot under the sun !

    Against your favoured enemy.

    Need i say more?

I play a ranged build all the time

I really do know what is likely and what is utterly hypothetical

I am well aware of the HelvesAngel build. I have discussed it with DarkStar its creator many times.

I dont even think he has gotten to the end with it yet.

If they ever did for Crit Rage i would use this build myself.

I often mention/reccomend it on these Forums

Glad to see some people getting it XD

Anyways, I've always had the mindset of: ranged is inferior to melee, but this isn't a game about being the best (at least, it's not supposed to be), it's about having fun. So if you want to pew-pew, I have no problem whatsoever. I think mathematically the max dps ranged numbers will probably be inferior to max dps melee, but who cares? Not like it's likely to cause a wipe.

Also this build is not an example of top of the line arrow dps haha. I'm not even sure how often he could hit. But it just makes sense to me dang it! How is a ranger making fireballs? HOW?
