Default slim gel/goo how to beat them?

i was doing the kobold din quest i did it on normal solo at lvl 2 with my cleric with no problem.
Now when i tried to solo it on hard i also didn't have much problem killing stuff but those slim gel things kept destroying my items "my mace and boots got destroyed.
i tried using inflict light wounds on maximize but after killing them i was out of 50% of my SP.

Ohh and the dog didn't last long with them and i ended up paying way too much for all my broken items.
ranged weapons like heavy crossbow didn't do much damage also.

how do you guys kill these things without them destroying all your equipment?

Get an item that is immune to the ooze affect such as an Everbright item or Muckbane Which can be found at the optional chest in Durks Got a Secret

Try to get a special club from the rear section of "Durk's got a secret". If you have enaugh plat you can just buy this club called "muckbane".
You can also use weapons with the weapons suffix everbright, they will be good vs rustmonster by the way, because they wont be harmed.
Until you dont have a good weapon just use a wooden weapon like a club or a quarterstaff they will be damaged, but will last much longer then metal weapons.
Dont use bladed weapons vs oozes, they may split.

You can buy a wooden club for about 1 copper piece if I remember correctly, from the armour vendor in the harbour. I get the impression that you are probably a new player that can't afford to buy an everbright weapon or a muckbane at this stage. Farm Durk's for a muckbane... it is well worth it.

The best advice I can give you is to open the social panel, click "Create Party" and write "Muckbane Farming, Guide Please" in the party notes.

Well, here's my two cents on the issue.

First of all, that tends to be the thing about oozes (and later on rust monsters); they are nasty enemies because they damage your stuff. However, there are certain measures one can take to minimize (and completely abolish) this problem.

    1) For the adventurer just starting out, there is nothing wrong with keeping a supply of a few basic clubs (or quarterstaves if you insist on two-handed weapons). They cost 1 copper piece at the weapons vendor in the Harbor (so a brand new one will cost the same as repairing an old one). This should greatly reduce the outflow of money you see when you fight oozes.

    2) In the Durk's Got a Secret Quest there is a rare encounter named ooze that can spawn (in the back after you've opened the rear sewers). In the chest from defeating this ooze you can find the club muckbane. It specifically states that it will never take damage from attacking oozes (and since it's not made of metal, attacking rust monsters won't incur additional damage either). Depending upon how much money you have you *might* even find it on the AH or something.

    3) Later on in life you might come across (or craft) weapons with the "Everbright" property. These weapons will not incur additional damage when used to attack oozes or rust monsters. ((Blueshine is the armor/shield "equivalent" of this enchantment.))

    4) Finally, if you play while festival coins (copper, silver, and gold) are dropping; turn them in to the Jester. He will occasionally give you sun flasks. While they might not seem that big a deal at first (1-2 base damage with ghost touch), they do rather decent (especially at low levels) amounts of damage to oozes and other light-fearing creatures (I regularly see over 70 additional damage against the beasts).

((Also of note, it is theoretically possible to get a Muckdoom (like muckbane but better) from the quest "The Pit" but it's not nearly as easily farmed as Muckbane.))

Hope that helps you fight the slimy menace.

Unless you get Muckbane or an everbright weapon, I would just disarm yourself and punch it to death. It's a pain.

Dont buy a muckbane off the AH...get a friend or 2 to run Durk with you...you will get a few mucks quick. And like another said, mucksdoom is better (2d6 instead of 1d6 bane) but you gotta run Pit....pita quest but great xp also if you have someone who knows it well

    Thank you very much.
i'll start farming on the nude with a regular club.
BTW does the rare encounters have a better chance of happening at higher difficulty?

In my limited experience and with no tracked data or statistics, it doesn't seem like it. I feel that the rare encounter has the same chance on all difficulties. And if I remember Dev posts and quotes correctly, higher difficulties don't increase the drop rate of named items on "earlier" content and Durk's has been here since the beginning.

to the OP, higher difficulty does not increase drop rate on named items, or rare spawns, but going in on casual from my experience does, so dont go over to durks on casual and expect it

Using the eternal wand from Korthos helps too.

First, if you're on Thelanis, please do post a "muckbane farming, need guide". I love helping newbies get their muckbane as much as drWhoFan loves Tempest Spine I'll gladly farm for muck all day long till you get one. I WON"T just buy you one. Same goes for The Pit. There's a nice Two handed version you can win in there called Muck's Doom, but it's a much tougher quest, level 7.
Second, if you don't care to try for a muckbane, then either fight barehanded, or with handwraps, or with any junk weapon, preferrably blunt. Heyton's Rest on Korthos has a Rusty Mace (SUPER crappy -1 damage) that works just fine, sorta, and you can also buy some junk mace or club or stick at just about any vendor. Oh, and we're telling you to use blunts because sharps have a chance of splitting oozes into a bunch of smaller ones.

problem is there are several ooze while farming for the muck bane in the first place..

    Recommend:
Buy several plain mauls or greataxes from the hammer and chain. (unlike some posters have commented, it does not need to be blunt, as the common lesser ooze you will encounter cannot split. Slimes and pudding split, but you don't really encounter many of those at the very low lvls, mainly the lesser ooze.

Yea they will break, and yea your not proficient in them... but ooze have poor AC, and they deal heavy damage and will quickly take out the ooze, and by carrying a few, you should easily get thru a quest or 2 before needing to repair.. And they only cost 1 copper each to repair.

At higher lvls, even a muckbane doesn't really suffice. if you want to continue melee'ing them past 8ish, get a nice everbright maul and power attack.

    .
Mucksdoom is a club, not a two handed weapon
