As the title says, is the Skiver still worth using?

I made a Greater Evocation Focus Dagger of Greater X Lore, and prefer that over a Skiver. It's still good if you dont craft or have Archmagi.

Of course that gets you one type of lore, not as useful as Arcane Lore. It also doesn't get you the meta savings, which may or may not be an issue depending on other build choices.

I've been hearing that greenblade is > the skiver


and that skiver archmagi can be replaced by amrath belts.

Im just at a lost since im debating on buying all tome pages

The efficient metamagics are not a huge deal, but they're a nice bonus. Archmagi at level 14 is nice if you're planning to TR, but it's not a huge deal if it's your final life, since Amarath belt is super easy to get.

Greenblade is usually easier to get than farming tome pages yourself, but you also can't just flat out buy it. It could take forever to get one of those as well, Skiver at least you can be sure you're obtaining it.

They're pretty comparable items, and if you're not TRing, either one is perfectly acceptable for Greater Arcane Lore.

You've been... hearing? Is it so hard to pull up both items on the wiki and just compare them?

Skiver is still a useful item, having greater arcane lore means I don't have to bother with individual lores, and I'm lazy so that's very attractive to me. As a greater arcane lore item, skiver is very nice cause it's a weapon, so you can easily swap it out when you don't care about lore, and unlike (non-epic) Greenblade, has some other useful stuff on it (sure there's other sources of archmagi and efficient metamagics, but Skiver still bunches them up in one neat package).

If you already have a greenblade, or the abbot trinket, together with another archmagi item, it's probably not worth the price (prices for tome pages have been going wild latealy) though.

Skiver is awsome. I think it is minimum lev 12. hard to find all that on anything else at that level.

Just like what DemonMage said, if you are going to TR, it is useful.

As for me, owner of a Skiver and have no plans of TR-ing. I am thinking that the time spent collecting / trading / grinding / buying tome pages are not that worth it. But hey, I still use my skiver now, It is just kinda meh for that effort.

I'm a savant, so only really need one kind of lore, and dont worry about saving a couple SP.

Best greater lore item is of course Noxious Embers, 1 min 40 sec free maximize.

a couple sp matters a lot if it is a concrete advantage...

and to answer OP's question, no, it is not really worth it for functional value, your time would be better served selling the set of 8 tome pages for god knows how much and simply obtaining a greenblade, which functionally on an end-game character (pm wizard) has only the benefit of imp empower II (and you dont even use that often on a PM)

however it also looks sexy, which is why i have one 8D

Epic greenblade is imo a huge waste...

Idea begin farm for green blade and skiver at the same time which ever you get first roll with it.
note: EGB does have potencyIX good for swarms.

1 of these i can farm plat (which is quite easy, and can even be done while doing whatever else you feel like) and *buy* my way to the end result i want (and don't have to farm anything i don't want to). the other one i have to farm epic demon queen, which can only be run once every 3 days, and have to collect 3 semi-rare ingredients myself.

personally, i opted for the skiver. but, if you run a lot of demon queen, epic greenblade may be better. i just didn't really feel like grinding a quest i don't particularly enjoy over and over.

My casters all have skivers. I like the blue. No other blue dagger that looks like it. I'm more about looks then functionality.

Wrong, the thing has Spell Penetration IX which is extremely rare and very valuable. That combined with Greater Arcane Lore makes it one of the best caster items in the game.

Only other item I can think of atm that has Spell Pen IX is Epic Shamans Band, and I use it even though spell pen is the only useful effect it has.

I prefer Shaman's band + Staff of petitioner for cc'ing or Skiver + Ornamented Dagger for dps spells.

A Greenblade would make me just as happy as my skiver, I just managed to finish my tome page set before I pulled a greenblade.

Oh yeah forgot about that one. I have it gathering dust in my bank because while it's nice with a greenslot and all, it competes with Noxious Embers and Torc which are usually better options for necklace :/
