ive ran 3 rare named runs through explorer area and have not gotten 1 essence in a chest.bug or wai?

I think you mean greensteel mat and I don't believe they drop in every rare chest. Keep searching. One will pop up eventually.

no i mean greater essences maybe i have had a severe run of bad luck are you stating that you have picked up greater essenses since u10.2? 25 boss chests total and 0 essences

As far as I know, those don't drop in every rare chest either. I haven't really played a lot since the update, so I couldn't tell you if I've noticed a difference in the drop rate for sure.

I can tell you that the Vale is kinda funky. The first time me and my guild leader ran through the entire thing we only encountered one rare (out of a possible 18) and it wasn't really even a rare. It was the red name Djinn in the north that doesn't give a chest after you defeat him. It might just be a fluke for you.

i think it is just bad luck. i was in there last night and was getting essences from most chests

hmm more input please 32 chests now and 0 greater essences in the explorer area zone lots of bosses am getting husks and petals but 0 greater essences

It looks as if explorer area chests may work the same as Epic dungeon quests, and not provide essences.

I was making an underwater action ring for a lowbie and screwed it up, forgot to pass the shard and just made the ring which if course was BTC and that was the last of my great water essences. Went rare farming in the vale scored what I needed in a few passes to get the ring done right. So they are dropping, this was just yesterday, thing is I always run with a loot boost on so adding that to the equation you might do better in the outdoor areas of reavers refuge, not nearly as many rares but higher level chests.

After a little time in the desert today, seen them drop. Not in every chest, but regular enough.

I'm suspecting the original poster has the worst drop luck in the world.

Why hasnt this been fixed? Just give me my chest for killing this guy, arg. This is game breaking for me. The chest should also have a 50% chance to drop a large or atleast a funk or pebble.

I believe that guy is there for practice before you go against the multiples of the same in Running with the Devils.

I just avoid him now, he is always there.

Although I agree, a 50% chance to drop a large and/or any of the other ingredients that you otherwise have to quest for would be great.
