I toyed with the thought of rolling up another melee toon, either a Barb or a Fighter. One of the questions is: Which weapon to take? Khopesh again? I decided to run some basic numbers with the benefits of Frenzied Berserker III and Kensei III in mind.
That means:
Berserker: +1 crit modifier with Death Frenzy (other crit bonuses are independent from base weapon)
Kensei: +1 crit range with Kensei III
I decided to compare the strongest weapons regarding their crit profile, which means 20/x4, 18-20/x3 and 19-20/x3. The data I got was a bit surprising and I want to know if I am right:
Given: Kensei III or FBerserker III and IC:corresponding weapon.
Kensei III:
18-20/x2 becomes 14-20/x2 which means 26 effective hits per 20 swings
20/x4 becomes 18-20/x4 which means 28 effective hits per 20 swings
19-20/x3 becomes 16-20/x3 which means 29 effecive hits per 20 swings
Frenzied Berserker III:
18-20/x2 becomes 15-20/x3 which means 31 effective hits per 20 swings
20/x4 becomes 19-20/x5 which means 27 effective hits per 20 swings
19-20/x3 becomes 17-20/x4 which means 31 effecive hits per 20 swings
Conclusion:
With the benefits of Kensei III, the Khopesh is only a tiny bit ahead of the Heavy Pick, Scimis and Rapiers are quite a bit behind. Fighters have loads of feats, so Khopesh is probably still the winner here.
For the Barb, Scimis and Khopeshes are on par regarding their crit profile. This really surprised me. The Heavy Pick is quite a bit behind which is also not quite obvious.
Are my base calculations right? And if yes, do other factors like Seeker, Bursts or Fortification swing the pendulum again in another direction? I'm quite pleasantly surprised that a scimi-barb might be only that one point of base damage behind a Khop-user while not using up a feat.
[EDIT] Calculation for FB is wrong, other than stated in the wiki/in-game tooltip, Death Frenzy is only 19-20/+1.
