Essences don't take up a loot slot anymore in chests, but it has a side-effect

Chests have a limited amount of lootslots (which i have no idea how it's rolled for)
pre 10.2 Essences took those lootslots to drop Essences, robbing you of your regular stuff.
now 10.2 Essences have their own slots and spawn in ALL chests even those without lootslots.

This means that chests which contain keys, questitems, or normally nothing like the blade trapped on in gianthold to contain Essences.

Thank you for the free Essences, but i assume this fun side-effect will be taken care of soon

Yea.. if anything needs to be fixed, is the low/zero droprate of essences in epic.

A couple in the odd non loot chest isnt hurting anything. Not like those kind of chests are particularly more common then loot chests.. the oposite is true.

If it is, you can be 100% certain it will be patched asap. Cant have players running into an easy quest just to loot the key chest 100x.

Heh, I just zerg over that box. Done it probably 60 times, and I don't think even once the long way.

The more you know... with essences in there, it could be worth the detour.

Interestingly (or more likely, not that interestingly) I've done 3 rounds of the vale, with 22 chests (had bad luck on rares obviously) and had zero essences drop.
Blew through Irestone twice and pulled 17 and 13.

Anyone know if essences do or are supposed to drop from explorer area chests?

I wonder if the 3 fake chests from Litany of the Dead drops any essences. It would be fun though, seeing essences and vanished right after you pop the chest lol.

For quick chests Millers X and Defend Haverdasher are quick ways to get a bunch. Often used for coin farming if bored.

Yes I have used those often myself, especially if I only have a few minutes, 30 chests in about 20 minnutes.

And higher level quests drop more.

So yea the odd key chest having a couple doesnt hurt much, giving every other chest in the game has them, and theres far better loot runs out there then key chests.

I tried out new ring leader for a low lvl check:
results:
norm - 1 essence per chest
hard - 1d3 esences per chest
elite - 1d3 essences per chest, tho more chests had 3 then hard.

I believe every chest in the normal Tear XP farming I did last night had 2, exactly 2, stacks of essences in them. The actual number of essences varied wildly. It was quite a haul by the end.

I also ran some Hard/Elite Tangleroot, and while I got a few essences, it was nowhere near as reliable as that.

Ran hard TOD last night where multiple people pulled multiple types and numbers of greater Essences from single chests.
Also ran 25 Vale explorer area chests before I pulled any essences. (then pulled between 1-3 for the next 4 chests so..) Then ran GH (6 chests no essences) Battlefield (3 chests no essences) and Refuge (3 no essences)

So far (for me) it seems to be every chest in quest, zero in Epics, and they seem to be rare in Explorer areas, but it very well could just be a run of bad luck I had

Got 2 stacks (varying quantities) per loot chest in Reaver's Fate yesterday. None in the raid loot box.
