Default MinII vs. LitII w/o improved crit

I feel bad asking such a basic question, but I did try to search without finding a definitive answer:

Is a LitII scimitar still better overall (non-metal DR breaking) DPS than a minII even if I don't have the improved critical feat?

It's for my Arcane Archer / 2WF Bard who really doesn't have room for improved crit.

    Thanks!

    Probably not.

Assuming that you are not concerned about non-boss mobs or boss-mobs where there is no DR then the loss of crit damage combined with DR most likely is greater than the average damage on a lightning proc.

Against a generic (no resistance, 0 fort) opponent, Min IIs are pretty good weapons in their own right. Holy, Acid Burst, Acid Blast, and Slicing is only about 6.5 damage per swing behind Holy, Lightning Burst, Lightning Blast, and Lightning Strike, depending on how you measure Lightning Strike. For 3 * multipliable damage to make that up over 20 swings, you would need to do 44 for your multipliable damage. Hard to say if you can reach that without knowing more specifics of your build, plus there's pretty prevalent acid resistance to consider.

With all that said, the difference is not going to be much. If you really want another feat, you won't be gimping your character by using min IIs everywhere instead of lit IIs.

    Ok, thanks guys.

I think my average damage is a little under 44, but not much so I may go with minIIs anyway due to the added utility. I have some time to think about it as they aren't at the top of my crafting list right now (epic brigand's cutlasses, and crafted +4 holy of evil outsider bane cover most things).

Post U11, Epic Kronzek's Cruelty will be your best option. It's basically going to be a Lit 2 with Improved Destruction instead of Holy, but with Keen.

I like the litII better. Many raid bosses cut your crit chance by half, and the litII does about 17~20 more damage on average (per swing) than the minII against trash devils. The 600-650 damage proc is so cool. If at some point you find a spot for the feat, You will want to have the litIIs lying around.

Look up Genasi's posts in the Lamannia Dev Tracker.

Cruelty will be a +6 Scimitar with 2d6 base damage, Shocking Burst, Keen, Maiming, Improved Destruction and Lightning Strike, with a red slot so it either breaks DR/good or becomes +7.
