    Even if you are building this as mainly a trap monkey build, you are going to need more CON and STR if you want the toon to be usefull for anything other than finding and disabling a trap. Even with weapon finess adding to your attack mod on a weap (assuming thats what you are going for with the high dex) your damage mod is still going to be STR, so you are going to want to have both of those stats high.

    16STR
    16DEX
    14CON

    would be the starting stats i would suggest mainly because:

    16 dex only requires you to use a +1 tome (assuming since you say you are new you don't really have the resources to get +2 tomes) to get the TWF feat progression. 14 con is the very minimum i would start ANY toon at to stabilize a decent hp. you dont really need INT or CHA for a rogue, the skill points you get per level + an item for search/DD/OL will get you plenty high to get the traps while having high STR and CON allows you to do decent damage and survive.

    Abilities:
    - Con and STR are too low;
    - INT is too high.

    Feats:
    - you are missing a feat at lvl 9.

    What I would do:
    - drop INT to 12;
    - raise STR to 12; using +1 STR tome, you will qualify for Power Attack;
    - raise Con to 14;
    - feats: drop one Toughness feat; get Power Attack (you will need +1 STR tome) and Improved Critical: Piercing (I'm assuming you are using rapiers).
    On Thelanis: Hallelujah (EK wraith) - Jerryrigged Juggernaut (Fiend Warlock) - Sepulchral (Druid) - Chopchopchop (Monk) - Alleyshadow (retired gimped monkcher). Formerly on Keeper : Misericordia (Thug) - Mumbo Jumbo (Battle Caster) - Infernal Can (WF Kinda Cleric) - Halleluyah (Melee Spellsinger).

    Thanks for the input I didnt realize about the strength / I thought dex replaced it in all aspects. What skills should I focus on, reducing my int. will drastically cut my ability points.

    Here is updated build, with suggested changes. How does it look now, I want to steer clear of "trapmonkeyiness", will this build suffice for a decent to high dps build, or should I take a nap and start over. Thanks

    Thank you, I dont know how I put tough in there twice, lol or how I missed feat 9 altogether. Yes I planned on rapiers. I will put build up with your changes as well, I think I would prefer a int of 12.

    Ok, how does this one look, I dont know where to get tomes or how much they cost, but I figured that by level 6, I should be able to get one. I put that at level 6 and filled in empty feat spot at 9 with power attack, took out second toughness at 18 and put in great fortitude. Thanks for all the help, how does this build hold up now.

    I would move ITWF up to level 9, get IC(pierce) at 12, and move PA down to level 18, getting rid of Great Fortitude.
    I would move Opportunist up over Skill Mastery, and perhaps change Slippery Mind to Crippling Strike, or another Skill Mastery. The last is mostly a personal preference - I find I get buffed with spells that grant immunities to most of the will save effects at end game anyway. Not all, but most.

    You might want to get the 2 points from cha to int, depending on focus. Int helps assassinate, and trap skills - may be nice if you do not have good twink gear for trapping while levelling. The cha hit would hurt UMD a little, though. It's mostly a matter of personal preference.

    Having both capped a DEX based and STR rogue, I'd advise to go with STR based.

    This means dropping dex to 15 and eating a +2 tome at lvl 7.

    All level ups (4,8,12,16,20) into STR

    14 CON and 1 toughness feat is enough for a rogue once you get the equiptment.

    INT can be dropped to 10 and still have plenty of skill points left over. If you're worried about skill points, go human and you get an extra feat, 1 extra skill point, and can bump your STR 1 more point as well as get healing amp.

    Your sneak attack dps will be ever so slightly lower, but your overall dps and survivability will be higher.

    Are you sure you want to go with 'True Neutral' as your alignment?

    If you go with 'Neutral Good' you will have access to 'Good' aligned weapons.

    Your UMD will not be high enough for quite a few levels to allow you to use these weapons if you stay True Neutral.

    One more thing, the Assassin line is a lot of fun, but the goodness doesn't start until Assassin II at level 12. Many would be assassins will start off as Mechanics and then respec into Assassin at level 12.

    Ideally you want to start with 15 dex, and use a +2 Tome of Quickness in Action to increase your base dexterity to 17 to qualify for the Improved/Greater Two Weapon Fighting feats.

    You might have to settle for just 16 dex and a +1 Tome instead; +1 tomes can be expensive for a completely new player to get but maybe you can bum a +1 tome off of somebody...

    Ability Scores

    Str - 15 (13 pts) + 5 level up bonus points
    Dex - 15 (5 pts)
    Con - 14 (6 pts)
    Int - 10 (2 pts)
    Wis - 8
    Cha - 8

    Extra points: 2; can go in cha for better UMD, int for better assassinate/more skills, con if you think the odd modifier is okay, etc.

    Personally, I like str rogues. If you're set for a dex rogue, try this:

    Str - 14 (10 pts)
    Dex - 18 (10 pts) +5 level up bonus points.
    Con - 14 (6 pts)
    Int - 10 (2 pts)
    Wis - 8
    Cha - 8

    Note that finesse rogues trade damage for higher reflex, that's the core feature; if you want decent damage you still need a good starting strength and still need to invest in plenty of strength gear (if you do, the difference is around 3 less base damage for 4 more reflex). IMO, high reflex is only useful for specific epic traps; nearly any build can hit the 30-34 reflex range needed to save against raid bosses (exceptions being classes that completely dump dex and pick a class that only gives 6 to reflex instead of 12 at level 20).

    There's also assassinate rogues that shoot for a high assassinate DC:

    Str - 12 (6 pts)
    Dex - 16 (6 pts)
    Con - 14 (6 pts)
    Int - 16 (10 pts) + 5 level ups
    Wis - 8
    Cha - 8

    Having 21 int instead of 10 int means you're up 5 or 6 points of assassinate DC, but down 4 damage per swing from the str rogue and 4 reflex from the dex rogue. Plus more skills, if you want them.

    Nom a +1 str tome before you take power attack.

    -Move Silently

    Essentially, the DEX-based rogue has higher to-hit, Reflex saves, AC (for as long as it matters), and INT for more skill pts and higher Assassinate DC; she also doesn't need any tomes until lvl 17 when you need at least +1 STR for PA (but I was optimistic that you would pull a +2 STR). The STR-based khopesh rogue will have higher non-SA DPS but needs a +1 DEX tome by lvl 8 for ITWF; also khopeshes tend to be too expensive for newcomers early on, so odds are you'll use rapiers anyway until you can afford to buy or craft khopeshes.

    True, but now that Righteousness (finally!) counts as good-aligned there's less need for PG weapons; and the crafting system allows one to (eventually) make whatever weapons you need. Plus TN lets you benefit from Stability items. Overall the pros of TN outweigh the cons, IMHO.

    Yawn, whew, just got up. I want to thank everyone for the input, its been of great value, I have learned tons. Maybe this thread or parts of it can be placed somewhere for others like me, but I digress. Ive been here on ddo for about 5 days, just searching reading and studying. I think it is time to plunge on in, text book understanding can only get you so far, and is much less fun than actually playing the game. I think getting "beat down" by a skelly or zombie or even a rat will teach me even more, lol. I am F2P account, with no favor no tp, no money, no experience, no nothing, Im inherently limited in what I can do, according to my research. so Im going to take about an hour compiling the awesome info, then embarassingly do some more research to decipher some of these terms and abbreviations. After that, Im in, Im on Khyber, if anyone sees a tiny naked rogue doing the "jitterbug" in town its probably me, practicing my melee / manuevering skills, so dont panic, lol. ( I have a hard time just walking straight, let alone fighting)

    I will most likely settle on the last build I posted, that requires the 1 tome to get to 13 str for power attack. I think for me a new player, that will suffice, I will be here a long time, playing alot, actual game play and trying to figure out what the heck is going on, will be beneficial; money, exprience, friends, guild, learning what kopesh is, crafting, (something I didnt realize we could do, lol) and etc. Also going with the last build I put up, will most importantly give me the satisfaction and awesome experience of creating something myself, ( with awesome advice of course) not totally alone, but enough so that pass or fail it is on me. You all rock, let me get to it, good day to all and thanks one more time. I have to go and pick a name and decide gender for my toon, doh.
