Or give melee buffs and new options.
They should have abilities for group CC, group instakill and aoe damage. At least put in the combat manouvers from D&D such as disarm, bull rush, charge, coup de grace. These should be automatically granted just like defensive fighting, trip etc are granted today, and should have adjusting (and boostable!) DCs.
Also they need to get back their pre-update 5 attack speed. And they need self healing such as Healing Surges.

Dont underestimate halflings, they make very powerful weapons. Plus they automatically gain the screaming property when used as weapons
