Default Dilettantes: Tomes & Feat swaps?

If I have a stat at 12 and use a +1 tome, will I be able to change my dilettante feat to one where I'd need a base 13 in that stat?

    Yes.
White Fang (newbie-friendly build) - TWF melee dps with self-sufficiency and rogue skills.
California King - the hagglebot craftbot alt build, pure Arty leveling with two-handed weapons.

While I have personally not tested this, I would be hesitant in saying yes like the previous poster, and in fact I would suspect the answer is no.

It is true that Fred does not care when you ate a tome as far as base stats for a feat. But he does credit you the tome incrementally. +1 stat boost is given at level 3, +2 at level 7 and so on. It could even be a +2 tome giving you the +1 to a stat at level 3 as far as Fred is concerned. Further, he will not let you trade a feat that conflicts with the level in which it would be available or based on pre-requisites.

As such, if the dilettante feat is only seen as a level 1 feat, then Fred will not allow you to change the feat because your stats would not be at the qualifying value in his eyes until level 3.

If you use a tome, then lesser reincarnate the tome will be automatically reapplied at the appropriate level.

For example, if you had 16 strength, are level 10, and use a +2 strength tome to reach 18 strength:
When you first begin your reincarnation you will have 16 strength
When you reach level 3 (the min level for +1 tomes) You'll notice you have 17 strength
When you reach level 7 (the min level for +2 tomes) You'll notice you again have 18 strength

It's possible then, that the tome wouldn't allow one to take the dilettante feat since it wasn't able to be applied until level 3, after you would normally have taken the feat.

Yes. I've done so and can verify. I did it with my Favored Soul to get the Paladin Dilettante (as starting with more than 12 cha is less than desirable).

Blah, didn't see thread was made almost 2 weeks ago so I'm sure you got your answer already.
