play an old update

I wish turbine wud make it possible for you to play an older version of ddo. like back when lvl cap was only 16 and the guardian of stk was somewhat a challenge... What do u think?

That's a request you see on every MMO's boards once in a while. Posted by veteran players who can't cope with the changes the game undergoes over the years.

The thing is: If you play an MMO, you should be aware that there will be changes. Lots and lots of it, sometimes so much that the game you are playing hasn't really much in common with the one you ventured into several years ago. Offering the option to play older versions of the game would come with so much problems and troubles, it wouldn't really be worth it.

You need new servers for it, which not only would cost a good amount of extra money, but it would split the community as a whole. There would be gangs of people who play a kind of a different game, with different rules here and there. Imagine forum discussions. For a new player it would look like a galactic conference, where everyone talks at the same time, without a translator, and no one would really understand what the others are talking about. Then the developers would have to work on different versions of the game simultaneously, because there will always be bugs. Last, and somewhat most importantly: Who would decide which versions would be offered? Everyone and their cat would want another one, and you couldn't possibly offer a server for every version of the game there ever was. You would not only end with a hardware bill that makes everyone weep, in the end there had to be a gazillion of servers, one by one a wasteland with about 5 players at peak time. Even if it would be decided that there will only be one old version server, it would blow because it would be a version 99%+ don't want, it would be mostly empty, and you wouldn't be happy at all.

I understand the longing for the good old times. But it just isn't realisticaly feasible to do such a thing. Accept the change that is part of every MMO and keep the good old past as what it is, good memories
