Has crafting stuff stopped dropping in chests?

It probably has something to do with the fact that crafting is temporarily closed.
Flip the switch to turn crafting off and the mats stop dropping because they've also been turned off via that same switch.
That's my guess.

I opened about 30 chests before crafting was closed down and no crafting items dropped.

I thought the release notes clearly stated essences would not longer drop in chests.

From what I understand, since they had to "turn off" crafting, the essence dropping was part of that.

• Crafting ingredients are now generated separately from normal loot, and will no longer take up a normal loot slot in chests.

That means that an essence won't replace normal loot, but have it's own slot. That is, if a chest is set to generate 10 items, up till now essences have been included in that 10, so if you get an essence or two there would be less regular loot. The update was intended to make the normal amount of loot pop, PLUS additional slots for essences when and if they appear. It doesn't mean that essences won't drop in chests.
However, this particular change may be responsible for the bug. who knows.

Essences will return when we activate Cannith Crafting again. It is highly likely that we will all be back on Lammania very soon to check out this and other bug fixes.

That's how I interpreted at first also, but given the reality that essences are not dropping in chests (even before crafting was indefinitely suspended) at all maybe that was a convoluted way of saying that they wouldn't drop.

That's pretty optimistic. Somehow I have this impression that "all" the people that normally go to Lammania may be growing a little weary of it by now.

Thank you Cordovan, I had made a post in a different thread looking for something like this to give us some idea of what's going on, a little more detail would be nice, but at least this is something.

Been loot running all morning and have not had a single drop of crafting materials. Does it not drop now?

A guildie had mentioned this last night and it made me curious so i went hit hit 25 chests from lvl5-epic and not one ingredient drop.
