    Question PS3 Controller and DDO

I have been trying to use my Play Station 3 Controller on my computer for DDO and have not been able to find a guide that I couldn't mess up somehow. If you know how please give me very detail instructions so I can't mess up or give me a link.

I would like the cost to be under $25 if anything. Controller not included.

I've used an xbox 360 controller for all my toons for a number of years. The only thing I use a keyboard and mouse for is buffing, flipping some inventory, & Raid Healing on my Divines.

I frankly can't believe that most people use a keyboard for a video game.

First things first, set up a modifier key. I personally use the right trigger. You essentially double your buttons by being able to hold that down and then hit X for a different action.

Heading out now but shoot me a PM and I'll send over the way I mapped out my controller, there are many ways to skin this cat.

well I have to configure the controller first. I can't even use it right now. I will worry about the keys after I hook it up to my computer.

You're not the first person I have heard of having trouble with the ps3 controller on this game, does the controller work on other games? Fps? Oblivion/Morrowind? A lot of computers adapt to the xbox controllers b/c they're made by microsoft so naturally vista and up that I've noticed handle the 360 controller pretty nicely.

    I personally use a 360 controller even though I no longer own a 360.

How many buttons does that (fairly pricy) PS3 controller have?

Instead of using a PS3 controller, what about an old Xbox one? you'll need to cut the cable & splice it to a usb plug - all you have to do is match the coloured wires (there will be one spare from the controller, just tape that up with electrical tape) and you're away laughing.

Original Xbox controller is 8 buttons + 2 triggers + 4 for the hat + the two on each thumbstick

Driver for the controller is here

I did my splice below the connector bit, so if i ever get another original xbox, i can just unplug it from the usb plug & attach an Xbox plug.

ControlMK is used to map buttons to keyboard/mouse keys & is found here
(use this in conjunction with the DDO keymapping to set up your controller)

    Enjoy

    haha

I'm talking about the old xbox - the original one from 2001. The controllers should be a mear pitance compared with PS3 & 360 controllers (although corded 360 controllers will not need modification).

    Here's mine:

Took less than 5 minutes to cut the el-cheapo usb cable & the controller cable, twist the similar coloured wires together & wrap everything in electrical tape (wrap the bare wires, then wrap the whole thing).

Without knowing where abouts in the world you are - here are 2 results from an ebay.com search (lowest price + shiping, 1st selected):

Original Xbox Controller. (you can get different styles). Notice that the plug isn;t a USB plug.

And here's an e-bay auction for a usb breakaway cable (its for a 360, connectors look the same). This would eliminate needing to cut your cables, but potentially is the more expensive option.

Of course, if you already have a corded PS3 controller here is a site that has instructions and links to drivers to get your controller to work.

You *may* need a program like ControlMK to keymap the controller buttons to keyboard/mouse keys. Assigning the the buttons can take a while

I'll continue using my wasd/mouse set up. I've grown accustomed to my key locations and am more than happy with the twitch-action hotkeys lined up on 1-4.

Playing first and third person games without mouselook is contrary to the will of God.

SIXAXIS is a 'type' of ps3 controler. You can look at the 'top' of the controler between the pair of R and L buttons. It will have "SIXAXIS" printed on it.
