I will update (probably via a separate thread) when I have more news, but I can say this:

We will NOT require raid loot as ingredients.

We will NOT require bound named items as ingredients.

Many ingredients, and the *amount* of some of these ingredients were out of line.

These changed recipes should have been reviewed by various designers, but weren't (a hole in our process that we have identified and corrected to avoid for the future).

Mournlands did not have an opportunity to see or comment on these changes.

Again, I'll post more info when I have it.

Our sincere apologies for causing panic, and many thanks to all players who offered their well-thought out and constructive feedback on this issue and tried the changes on Lamannia.

Very, very happy about this. I mean, I'm still gonna make all the greater bane/holy burst shards I can manage, in case the new requirements are truly onerous, but I think stopping this patch going out is a real win for Turbine, the DDO community and the game itself. Well done!

tbqh I'm not satisfied with a 'some of the changes were not intentional'. Scrap all of the recipe changes; no tomes, no astral diamonds, no epic shards/tokens, no named items, no bound items, no shroud ingredients. There is no way I am going to use Firestorm Greaves to get Fire Absorption shards, but you notice how the greaves don't fall under any of the categories he listed?

Change the recipes that there are issues with to require the 'Mystical' ingredients you get from high level packs (maybe even in high multiples); the addition of these ingredients to the end rewards of some quests could have been a non-intrusive way of checking the creation of powerful shards.

We will NOT require named items as ingredients. Greaves = named yes?

Except for the fact that the exact wording is "Will not require BOUND named items."

And since stuff like The Bloodstone, Firestorm Greaves, Ring of Spellstoring are UNBOUND named items... I still fear we may be in for some nasty surprises.

What's the point of a beta/test server if they're not seeing the updates to, you know, test?

Mournlands is not a test server, it is a first stage preview server.
Lama is a 2nd stage preview server.

In either case, not showing these things to that private audience first is ridiculous.

I'm not about to disagree with that.

I suspect that Mournlands is mainly used for the initial feedback on gameplay changes. These crafting changes never changed the mechanics of gameplay, it would of just changed how the game would be played (no more loot put up for roll etc).

Very happy to see the post from MadFloyd. Nice to see that we do get listened to on occasions.

    Thumbs up

This is great news given that the pros and cons were actually weighed in this matter.
I am glad that Madfloyd and the others listened to many concerns from the DDO community on this.
Also a big shout out to everyone in the community for voicing their concerns.

That being said, what viable changes will be made in the future to improve and make crafting better?

It would be nice if they said "Thanks for all the feedback we've decided too (insert madfloyd post here) but were also unlocked crafting so you can carft any effect on any item with some exceptions like no flaming burst or other attack properties on non-weapons and no guards on weapons...but shields can have anything since their considered to be a dual purpose equipment.

What if they kept the same recipes for unbound shards? We still get to make our own stuff for a "fair" price, but the price of unbound shards would be.... ghastly.

Keep the same price no. Have varying costs yes.

IMO the best bound shards should be attainable at a moderate cost. The best unbound shards should be attainable at a high cost.

The overall system is likely somewhat broken though really it is too much grind to get your crafting level up and then too powerful once it is that high. It should be balanced with easier ways to level but have higher costs on desired items.

That's exactly what I mean though. I think it's pretty fair that you can craft til you are blue in the face as many holy banes of kickassery BTA shards once you get to the appropriate crafting level. What is not cool, is crafting UNBOUND shards and bestowing those gifts upon your guildies or even selling them on AH for little or no cost to yourself. That would incredible devalue GS if I could craft and sell unbound shards of holy burst and greater bane to you for little or no material cost to myself. On that faithful day when unbound lvl 65 shards are available, I promise you I will spread holy burst greater bane shards like Johnny Appleseed just to watch jaws drop.

However, add the raid loot + tomes + other ridiculous crafting ing to unbound shards? Man, each shard would go for 1mil+ plat ... for just one shard prolly. That would def limit the number of unbound shard transactions, as well as better reflect the cost of those items.

Dunno, it was a momentary brain fart. But it smells good...

I vote we avoid a situation where people have a good reason to not pass raid loot ever again since it can be used in unbound crafting.

Raid loot, tomes, shround ings, astral diamonds? No.

Collectibles, mystical plants/urns/etc., Soul Gems? Yes.

Including raid loot in crafting ing would discourage /roll d100 that we do now. That would suck indeed. OTOH collectibles, even the mystical plants/urns/etc or even the soul gems are just not that hard to get. I mean, they could bump up the numbers to like 100 brocolli, 50 soul gems, 9 LDS.... or w/e.... but that's just obnoxious. I'm not sure which scenario is the better evil.

As a side side note... Would people really hold onto said raid loot? Like, if one was either not interested in crafting, or only at crafting lvl 40, would that person really save that dreamspitter for when he/she gets to crafting lvl 120+ and can craft the unbound GB version? I know I wouldn't, but not sure how others feel.
