    Default build request, battle-caster

I know dont do it, but I feel like something different for my next life. So im looking for a 34 pt sorc or wiz build that is decent at melee.

My favorite has been Gemstone - just can't choose between his 32-pt build and his 36-pt build. His 34-pt life was a disappointment, however.

    32-pt: 12 Wiz/6 Ranger/2 Monk
    36-pt: 11 Wiz/6 Ranger/3 Rog (contemplating dropping Intimidate and going to a 12/6/2)

It's in the link in my sig - just gotta click the thread link at the top to see more than the latest build.

In a nutshell, it was a pre-Tempest1 nerf TempestWizard. If I did it again in the current game, I'd trade in the Dodge+Mobility+Spring Attack for something else... poor tempest1.

Sorry, I should have put that in my OP, my first life was pure wizard.

    Exclamation Cast or Melee?

There are essentially two routes you could follow: a caster that melees or a melee that casts (buffs). Both have their distinctive advantages and disadvantages.

Phidius prefers the buffing melees, with the ability to heal, haste, rage and displace for example; whereas I am partial to casters that melee.

Melee splits generally aim for Wiz11 (WF), Wiz12 (PM) or Sorc12 (WF) with level ups into STR or DEX (for finesse).

Caster splits will typically have far more caster levels generally aiming for lvl8+ spells (Wiz15+ or Sorc16+) with level ups into their casting stat INT (Wiz) or CHA (Sorc).

With your past Wiz life you could easily have near full casting as a Wiz17 and still melee well with the 3 splash levels (Rog, Monk, Ftr, Barb make good splashes)

Check out Tak's Caster Tank the Tukaw build.

I have one on Ghallanda, and I love it. It is very gear intensive, but what build isn't these days.

I think I would prefer the caster split rather than the melee split. I want to avoid losing that casting also so I don't really want barb,.

I've got one of those too, and he used to be my favorite. After the spell revamp and addition of cheap SLAs, I find he doesn't melee much anymore, and I learned that standing in the back (to prevent my target slipping behind me) and casting just doesn't appeal to me anymore.

Precious' build in my sig is a 34-point 18Wiz/2Rog.

I've actually been looking at that one for a while, and I've seen it in action, but I want to try something thats not cloned all over. Maybe a force specced wiz17/rogue2/fighter1. Being a fan of ghoste's shadowmage I do want to fit in stealth too. I'm just not sure what I should set my stats and feats too. Gear, skills, and AP are easier to figure out.

    Exclamation Splash?

The Barb is really a single level splash for Fast Movement & Sprint Boost, and possibly Martial Weapons. The Rage is simply an additional unused ability

    Wizard I imagine? Or Sorc?
How much splash? Wiz can get by with 17, but some prefer 18+ for PrE3s…

Next question is Evasion? Rog2 or Monk2 are required for that.
Martial Proficiency? Ftr, Pal, Barb or Rng for that.

    Rog2
    Ftr2
    Monk2/Rog1
    Rog2/Ftr1
    Rog2/Barb1
    Ftr2/Barb1
    Monk2/Ftr1

    Are all possibilities

Ok I've checked out all 3 of these, and honestly I want to throw them all into the stone of change to combine into my build. I "want" high enchantment DCs, melee, evasion, trapping, but cant decide wheather I want PM to be the toughest nut to crack, or AM for the force SLAs... leaning towards PM as that would open racial options to other than WF, but requires feats I don't want.

    So far Im thinking:
    12w/2r/1f
    7 normal feats
    Toughness
    Inciteful reflexes
    maximize
    Past life wizard
    GSF:enchant/necro
    spell pen
    g spell pen
    4 wizard feats
    SF:enchant/necro
    extend
    heighten
    quicken
    1 fighter feat
    Something (PA)

    Still not sure on stats.

    Exclamation Possibility

Sure – something like this, using Elf for Falchion and Elven Arcanum. WF is obviously another option.
    Code:

    Exclamation Enjoy!

Sure, no prob – glad to help!

There will be extra Skill Points at the later levels you can put wherever and you can obviously tweak the stats if you prefer CON or STR for example. Have fun – cheers!
