This idea basically kills the usefulness of crafting in my mind. The idea is that if you put up with the grind of crafting then you could take a ton of mats and make it into a useful item.

Good luck finding beta testers for crafting on live after this...I doubt you'll have enough people bothering with it to test anymore.

I'm also kicking myself that I didn't beat my head against the brick wall to get to high crafting levels and craft up shards when they're still reasonable to make. At least I can say that I didn't waste my time on what's shaping up to be a worthless long-term feature of high level crafting.

    Crafting is dead to me.

Congrats to those who made their perfect weapons and got their foot in the door before this went live.

glad to see they realize the mistake of going so overboard and will be doing *something* about it.

some items i wouldn't mind giving up. scorched bracers? so what. they drop like hotcakes. storm? or stormreaver amulet? phhht... people are rolling to be the person who DOESN'T have to take it... only hangup there is the fact that they come from a p2p raid. so they, by default, exclude people from making that item unless they pay. on the other hand i do realize Turbine is a business, and businesses are in it to make money.

i do, however, think it is slightly humorous after the tremendous uproar over how crafting was trivializing and invalidating raid gear and greensteel, that this ill-advised change was coded... and now, of course, there is the corresponding backlash uproar over how bad this change is. i'm not trying to imply or even hint that requiring raid gear is a good idea. i don't think it is. i just think it's kinda funny what happened.

Not to mention AD as part of crafting too.

As if any of us have ever pulled...four that would be required for one of those new dragonshards.
(and not to mention you buy them in packs of 5 on the store)

    Default On second thought...

I started crafting when it went live and got to level 20 in all three schools when I stopped so I could work on my TR and do epics (and all the typical endgame stuff.) About a week ago a guildie came in to an EChrono whit a set of Khopeshes he had crafted (After spending nearly all of his game time in the crafting hall since U9 was released) and he tore through most mobs like butter. Made me want to get back to crafting.
Not now. Im already farming raids and epics for items that rarely drop, Im certainly not going to use them for crafting!

There, now let's see how they mess THAT up!

If crafting invalidates raid loot, then raid loot needs an overhaul. It doesn't need a new life as crafting components, that's just... unbelievable. Really, Turbine?

Well, I apologize for not providing Lamannia input on the earlier crafting beta where the player consensus seemed to be that crafting was way too easy. Yes, it is...for players that already have metric tons of resources. I've just about reach 40 in the 3 schools after funneling all essences to the crafting toon, deconstructing not all but many items (split between getting specific essence types and flat-out selling items).

I expect this is the experience for many players that don't have multiple plat-capped toons.

This new change seems to reflect the input of the multiple TR/plat-capped set rather than us more ordinary players which I would expect to be more representative of the player population...unless I'm just exceptionally slow.

Unless you're going to dramatically increase the drop rate of said raid loot (upwards to the drop rate of crimson chain/garments of equilibrium and such) then I obviously wasted any time or effort put into the crafting system. (Yes, you call it "beta" so I'm not really complaining about effort already expended.)

We will make changes. Unfortunately, they will not be made in time to alter the upcoming patch. As you know, the system is still in beta and we will effect changes as soon as we can.

Our apologies and thanks for the swift, clear feedback.

Can we add Astral Diamonds and Dragon's Bloods to the 'no way' list?

I think I've seen 3 ADs pulled in the last year. How long would it take to find 5 Dragon's Bloods in order to craft a Greater Dragon Bane?

Requiring players to purchase items in order to craft shards that don't have a 100% success rate, just turned the crafting devices into slot machines.

I already made my own statement on lama.

And personally, I don't give a dam if it is still in beta. This was never going to be an acceptable change and they knew it.

Just to note, you can use ADs to "buy" the marks you need for the Sora Katra crafting.

I know. And that's a convenience I appreciate. But the marks are easily farmed, you don't need many to upgrade your Sora Katra loot, and you have a 100% success rate for crafting. In other words, you get what you pay for if you chose to purchase ADs.

For Cannith Crafting you will not have a 100% chance to craft every shard, so you will be risking your ADs every time you craft. Even with a 90% success rate on a shard, you have a chance to lose the money you just spent. The money you HAD to spend in order to have a chance to create that shard.

    That is a slot machine.

Which might actually be illegal in some states as its paying real money online for a chance at something i.e. internet Gambling. I know my home state actually outlawed claw machines in stores and arcades unless the claw machine gave a guaranteed gumball for the 50cent chance to get a stuffed animal. And bingo has been outlawed now as well unless it has a charity license. Internet gambling is outlawed as well. So its not too far of a stretch. That's why I was surprised the pots you spend money to buy that increase crafting chances aren't 100% success rate pots. If I was Turbine I'd definitely have legal look into it.
