They bind to the character they're inventoried on, or bound on equip?
You see in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.
Found it. PAX East Swag bag item. That's an odd change considering it effects probably less than 1000 people.
Yeah, it affects so few people, I really don't see it as all that game breaking to have some BtA pirate hats floating around. And why should the XP pots and loot gems be BtC as well? The ones you buy in the Store are BtA.
I just don't see why this is such a pressing change when there are other things that need to be fixed (*coughCRAFTINGcough*)
Bad change. I crafted several Admiral of Blings for TRs and future builds that won't be created until a 50% off character slot sale. After five years of DDO, I thought I had a lot of patience, but I'm pretty sure I'll lose it if I come back from vacation and discover my bank toon has a permanent collection of gold hats.
Yes, I'm sure this affects a tiny fraction of the player base, but I'd think that would include some of DDO's most loyal fans that actually showed up at PAX and got the voucher. Three 5-year DDO vets, based on forum join date, have already complained.
This isn't simply a free item that Turbine will be making useless for me, like the account bound loot gems and xp pots that also came with the swag voucher, but something I spent a lot of time to make in game. And that's what makes me angry. Don't make this a retroactive change on the hats.

Very sad at this change. I got ONE hat from the MyDDO Lottery, and now you are breaking it.

If you don't have an SSD, you should be using DDOPreload (fixes the slow first login issue)
Bump.

The pirate hats from Crystal Cove are all bind to character. Since this special hat is nothing more than a gold admiral's hat I'm not sure that there's anything wrong with having it BtC as well.
That players who received them somehow took the opportunity to craft multiples -- not sure how that is possible -- and now cannot benefit from the ability to look especially pimped out in a gold admiral's hat doesn't seem to be the world's biggest problem.
If you want an admiral's hat for future characters then just wait on the next CC event and make one. Get over that it won't be special with that gold color.

That isn't the issue after all is it?
It neither hurts nor does it not hurt. It is irrelevant. If Turbine wants to have it BtA great. If Turbine wants it to be BtC that's great too.
The issue is whether it merits any concern or is worthy of Turbine changing it.
From the looks of earlier posts it seems some players were taking advantage of things to somehow get multiples. It seems entirely reasonable if Turbine decided that this wasn't their intent or desired result.
OTOH, it is more probable that it is an entirely unrelated effect that came out of other game changes made for other reasons. The amount of work needed to change back to BtA may seem trivial but IMO isn't worthy of much development effort.
There are many other things that are genuine problems with the game that deserve attention.
unneccesary nerfing? Thats not turbine style.
Oh wait it is...
Sad.
Hey guys come to pax for some free swag! (which we will later nerf hahahaa suckahs!!)
(Disclaimer: I don't own any form of BTA hats)
The only logical conclusion I can take from this is that they feel the BTA nature of the hats is over powered. I expect the DDO Store-purchased hats to be nerfed to BTC next.

The thing that made them worth buying was that they were BtA and not BtC. If they took that step I'd be demanding a refund.
They might make them BtC for future sales (if they want to kill their sales) but it would be totally inappropriate to make the change retroactive. Heck, they left the known bugged/exploitable BtA huge bages BtA. If they weren't going to retro bind a store item with a known exploit then it would be totally in appropriate to bind a store item with no attached exploit.
