Upon some reflection, this is the biggest reminder we've had in a long time about the enormous gulf that exists between Developers and Players and how both camps both regard and play the game.
This is demoralizing in the extreme.

So long, crafting, we hardly knew ye.

From a dozen of each we had bought somewhere;
And the sky went wan, and the wind came cold,
And the sun rose dripping, a bucketful of gold. " - Millay
Don't use Lammania, but from what i've seen going through the threads, these new things for crafting will almost certainly kill it.
The only way i can see having raid loot, ings, etc. as being viable for crafting would be if it was a second recipe for the same effect... I'm aware the specifics are wrong but i cant be bothered to find the right ones:
eg. for greater evil outsider bane option 1 would be the standard, pre-U10.1 recipe. Option 2, which incorporates raid items would require, say, dreamspitter, a medium shroud ing & khyber dragonshards BUT have 100% success chance & no (or minimal) crafting level requirement to make up for it.
This would allow for people like the ubervets who want to have the most perfectly refined gear or whatever & dont mind giving up their hard-won raid stuff for the extra edge but dont want to spend ages & a ton of resources levelling their crafting skill, as well as still allowing less experienced & geared people to have the possibility of crafting some nice stuff too.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.
Devs, step in now and tell us that this is only half of the new system.
Tell us that we can use Halfling Bane weapons to construct Chattering Rings. This has been your intention all along, right? It's the only thing that makes sense.
I am the natural one.

Disclaimer: My greenies come from comedy. I should not be confused with those who are knowledgeable and helpful.
I am REALLY, REALLY regretting not upgrading my crafting levels sooner... I figured after the changes in U9, U9.1, and U10, it would continue to be easier to level in crafting and make potent end-game weapons.
Looks like that won't be the case... instead, I'm glad I got where I was while I had the chance.
I am seriously miffed. I mean, you had a perfectly good way to control the creation of high level items using those rare ingredients you get from end-rewards in some of the high-level quests; and then you gave them out like candy. Your fault, not ours.

Exploit early. Exploit often...
I've been playing with crafting, using just loot I find from normal adventuring... I actually have one guy up to the 30s.... Nice and slow... But interesting, and I was seeing that I soon could make a few useful things...
Ah well, so much for that.
+1 to what everyone is saying.
This is a massively insulting change.
I read the notes, "Hmm good change, good change, oh that is useful, thats good too...hmm what does increased costs mean?" Once again Turbine seems to demonstrate that no good changes can come in without absolutely making some horrible, horrible ones to enrage players at the same time - maybe it is some skewed sense of divine balance.
In the history of Turbine overreacting to a ill-perceived balance problem - this one seems to be far and away on top of 'poorly thought out ideas'.
Requiring raid loot and named items to be used in crafting - as said - will destroy any generosity among players and reduce social aspects of the game as well. Considering you need to make multiple shards of anything to get crafting xp - requiring MULTIPLE sets of raid loot, rare items, other ingredients etc...the ability for most players to craft will be completely gone.
If Turbine's intention is to slap players faces - job well done.

Since this is the official feedback thread, I will reiterate what I said in a different thread on this topic.
I believe that adding named items, raid loot, and tomes to the cost of certain crafting recipes is one of the worst ideas ever put forth by this game's development team.
It is clear that a lot of time was put into developing this crafting system. Now you are driving a huge portion of the player base away from crafting. What was the point of investing all that time if you want to make the entire process completely unappealing for 95+% of players?
I seriously feel cheated out of all the plat I could have had by selling items instead of grinding it now.
I feel even more cheated out of the time I spent clicking on the deconstruct button doing instead of questing due to this change. Extra cost for extremely useful shards is definitely called for, but this will ruin crafting for me.
I can't even simply choose to stop crafting to avoid the damaging effects of this update, as raid loot (even loot not listed in a current recipe) will most likely be hoarded for crafting or for "just in case", now that Turbine has signaled a willingness to use it as ingredients. I at least hope that the drop rate on these items is being raised- something I never would have advocated without this change.
You dips better get ready to crank out the +2 loot and +25% bonus xp weekend before we get our torches and pitchforks and get to your office!!
Oh......and just effing BURN everything you've been working on with this patch!
Just burn it.
Me: Hi Lorindal, long time no see. How you been?
Lorindal: Bad, business is awful. Nobody stops in anymore.
Me: Ya, House Kundarak put in a new crafting hall where people can melt their loot from adventuring and turn it into magical essence to make new more useful items.
Lorindal: SO THAT'S WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON!! I'll get House K for this....
Me: Don't worry Lorindal, I heard House K made some changes. Let's just say you're going to be getting a LOT more business soon.
Lorindal: Oh really?
Me: In fact, here, I've got a whole pack worth of stuff I found helping out The Twelve in the Vale of Twilight and the Yugoloth in Amrath.
Lorindal: Great, my shelves were looking a bit empty. Thanks, pleasure doing business with you...
Me: Oh, don't thank me, thank House Kundarak, they ruined themselves on this one.
Seriously. Those release notes were all fantastic things. Sensing items from bags! Sound it from the heavens!
No one will remember update 10.1 as the update where we awesomely got to pull items from our bags to craft. Who wants to craft anymore? I fell like such a dupe for ever even trying.
THIS.
MrCow did multiple complete video diaries of EVERY quest in the game...
I think someone from turbine should do a complete video diary of leveling up in the crafting system... legitimately... I mean, thats not too much to ask is it? Minor crafting system vs entire game...
