Default Keep the Suggestion Subforum - perhaps a dev counter?

It would perhaps be informative to our community to have a tally tracking how many devs made available the time to read (open) our suggestions.

How would that be informative? It would not indicate whether or not the idea is going to be added to the game.

I suppose it might provide you a sense regards any buzz created around the idea on the dev side without commiting them to any sort of response.

There may be a perception now that the devs aren't looking / reading the suggestions... with a counter in place , one might at least get a feel that the idea is being read.

    that is all.

well maybe not all... if for example you saw that a particular idea generated a lot of buzz on the dev side, it could spur more debate on 'our' side and perhaps bridge us and them.

I would still just prefer a sticky or two that are closed to replies:

    1) Things that get suggested every week or so, therefore go find it and /sign it (a.k.a. please don't start ANOTHER "I want a spell component bag" thread).

    2) Things that the devs have decided would be good to implement. They don't need to go into much detail, just enough to know that they listen.

    UDR Loot Rules:
    1) No griefing people for pulling loot that dropped in their name
    2) When rolling, classes for which the item is "useful" get +10 to the roll
example: Wiz and Barb both roll on a Torc, the barb saying "I'm TRing into an arcane next week"
Wiz gets +10 on his roll

I don't understand where the perception that the devs do not read these ideas comes from, as multiple suggestions that appeared here first later made it into the game.

Counters could be misleading, one mod could leave one counter and add that suggestion to a list where it later makes it into the game, while another thread gets dozens of counters because the devs are all visiting it and making fun of the idea that will never make it into the game because of some programming issue we aren't aware of.

1)I don't recall creating duplicate threads being against the community guidelines we all have to follow. Were that the case than many people would have lost their posting priveledges by now.

    2) They cannot indicate they plan to implement ideas for legal reasons. Basically the poster could then sue Turbine for using their idea.

I suppose you have a good point.

Real intent was to help make some people aware that the devs are paying attention to our feedback - that's all.

and yes i understand that suggestions do get implemented... one of mine i believe made it into the game.

I never said they were against community guidelines. They are just annoying.

Calling BS on that. I'll gladly apologize and give you a +1 if you can show me ANY case where a plaintiff successfully sued a software company for an IP violation when the plaintiff had publicly offered to the company on the company's own forums. Following similar logic, all those who said that we should have half-orcs or half-elves prior to update 7 should be finding a good class-action lawyer.

folks this seems to be generating a lot of unlove.

i hoped only to suggest a suggest so that players had some sort of feel that an idea wasn't outright being ignored.

no idea - even this stellar one - needs to addressed, responded to, implemented by, or otherwise commented on by the devs... that is so inherent within the scope of the forum.

heck tell ya what, lets also have a sux meter assigned to our suggestions for dev usage... that way, your/mine sux idea will truly reflect by the devs the level of sux for which the suggestion stands.

then we can have peeps complain about how the devs always think our ideas sux... brilliant.

If you ever worked for a game company you wouldn't be calling BS. Before starting to work for them you have to fill out so many legal documents regarding intellectual property laws it is crazy. Basically any idea you have, book you write, or anything else you create while in their employ belongs to them. Blame the people that stole games and moved from one company to anther for that.

The simple fact that the devs never once stated that is a good idea (about the half-bloods,) before implementing them protects them from being sued. The have plausible deniabilty and can claim they came up with the idea themselves and/or that they had planned to implement those races before anyone suggested they do so. Same goes for the rest of the ideas in these forums.

However were they to reply to those ideas and state that they were going to add those suggestions to the game. the poster would have legal grounds for a lawsuit as they have not signed the waivers that the people working for Turbine or any other game company were forced to do. You don't have to take my word for any of this however. I don't know if Turbine has openly stated that they cannot respond to suggestions for legal reasons, but multiple other MMOPG companies including Blizzard have. Go research their forums or intellectual property laws if you really are that interested, or simply wait for Turbine to not respond to your ideas just like they have every other suggestion for the last 6 years or so.

I've signed my share of non-disclosure/non-compete/work-product agreements (granted, it wasn't work on video games, but I imagine streaming music services are similarly competitive), but I don't think anyone else cares to read a debate about the legalities. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to continue.

Dunno man - I've seen plenty of back and forth between players / devs in the Lammania forums to suggest there really isn't that level of protectionism.

Just recently I saw a dev respond back to post regards changing the symbols on the locations offered by teleport spell...

Not saying your point isn't valid however... just saying there is evidence to the contrary on the forums.
