What was the reasoning behind your characters name?

Well, I use a variety of names. Some I made up, some come from various name generators, and a few are from languages that suit the character.

Swiftcleave I made up, regardless, as I learned later, of it being a named sword in another MMO. Swifty is a THF dwarf axer in his first life, hence swift and cleave.

Volette is my female rogue. 'Nuff said.

Laeredra I got from an elf name generator. I have no idea what it means, but I like it.

The origin of the name isn't as important to me as the bio I put in each character.

Khaian: On my other server I went by "Chai" but people always prounounced it like the tea, so I transported to Khai. all my toons used to start with "Chai" for guild altitis ease. So I started it here. Khaian is the only toon that I made when i first joined the server that didn't get cut in the "I FINALLY NEED TO MAKE IT TO CAP" toon cut i had about three montha ago.

Remei: My dark monk. The first incarnation of her i made during House a couple of seasons ago, when 13, (Remy Hadley) did something 100% bada$$ so I made a monk. because for me monks are bada$$. I now associate the name Remei with my monks.

Ndarei: a play on the spelling name of N'Dare Munroe, who was Storm's mother in the X-Men. She's an Air sorc. go figure.

Kilei: My co-worker just had a daughter and named her Kyleigh. I thought it was pretty.

Decided to forgo the guild altitis name recognition because the guild i'm in uses an outside voice chat system, so there really is no need to tag my toons with a similar name. Which i think is awesome. lol

My Warforged Evocation Archmage is named Googoogadget Toaster (gogo was taken). Pretty obvious description of a trapmonkey.

My main Deathcabin I pictured as the name of some cheesy horror movie.

Most of my toons just have made of names that sounded nice. Mjinor & Mjirok were going for a Norse theme like how Thor's hammer is Mjöllnir.

Lyzern comes from a chain (Wyvern (The dragons, look it up) > Lyvern > Lyzzern > Lyzern (The Z fell off).

Nowadays most of my alt names are variations of Lyzern, but I used to have names such as:
- Kielg
- Thyrus
- Xaeth
I always liked the sound of these kinda names for some reason

My dark monk's the beesknees, so that's coolish. Beesknees seemed appropriate.

My light monk is the girliest half-elf male I've ever made, so Iwhipmyhair Backandforth seemed wholly appropriate as well.

And Draedalin just sounds cool, imho.

Of coures the title name was taken, and as far as I can tell hasn't been loged in since I started in january.... 2007!

Kalari- thought it was a beautiful name had no idea at the time it was a style of fighting but it fits even though shes a wizard I fight to prove elves can be a contributing party member.

Kamari- Her sister once again thought the name felt flowy and wanted something that stood out many have complimented her on her name.

Nyxy- I wanted a playful yet sly name something that indicated mischief and roguish fun and had a playfully sinister flow to it.

Foxiefist Cleopatra Jones- Yes I loved old 70s blackspotation movies watching them with my father so this name held that personal memories to it.

Suoress Surin- Elven for blessed child If you have not noticed the pattern I play elves

All my other characters I think have unique names I tend to use K names more then anything else but those are my first five keepers and why they were named that way. I think out of my 21 alts all of them have names that are playful and fitting of the way I play them.

Nandu - wanted nande ('why' on japanese), but was taken, so the next best thing.

Only 1 of my characters has a name with any meaning at all. Ilyrae originated as a 'fantasized' version of 'Lyra.' To this day everyone mispronounces her name. Almost everyone says "ily-ray' instead of 'ill-leer-ruh'

Not that I care, just random trivia, I spose. The rest of my characters are either entirely random letters strung together or the output of a character name generator spammed repeatedly. Too many elves rerolled too frequently to bother.

My two sorcs named Nattybo and Natyboh were breakdowns of the name of my original sorc, the Naty Boh Fiend. Naty Boh is short for a local beer in MD (National Bohemian). Only a handful of folks from DDO ever recognized it. But I had to squeeze Natybohfiend into one line, so sometimes it got lost. A few girls called me naughty boy friend, or nasty boy friend (whats not to like about women calling you Naughty?!)

Duracell - WF Caster, need I say more? You can't stop the coppertop!

Maalpractice - Cleric. I play divines like arcanes, preferring to pro-actively heal... you know, kill things before the pesky melees stub their toes.

Foust - FvS (misspelling of Faust) old German fable about an astromer/magician who sold his soul to the devil. Like I said I build divines for casting abilities first, and healing annoying melees second, maybe even third. I get a lot of grief from nuubs for hitting the intimidate, cometfall, DP, BB buttons more frequently than heal, but that's a whole different story.

Haloti Ngata - Barb - if you don't recognize this name its time to log off on Sundays and pay attention to the NFL (assuming it returns on time this year of course!).

Nothing too special about the others. Gunnari - used to be my AC tank, now's a monk; Tsunamii - monk; Hattorii Hanzo - fighter; few retired others.

After experimenting with many different races and classes/multi-classes I settled on Warforged as my favorite race and Favored Soul as my class of choice. I tend to over think the whole naming process - obsessive compulsive anyone? - but managed to settle on a common theme.

Tynkka EarthBlessed - FVS: Tynkka (metal, mechanical) and EarthBlessed because I live in Arizona and it was just after the monsoon rains started after a LONG hot/dry spell.

Vertigree Ferros - FVS: Vertigree (a color that forms on some metals, I'm not too sure about the correct spelling) and Ferros for the Pharos lighthouse, root meaning 'light'... I think.

Pateena Ferros - Sorc: Pateena (Patina, forms on bronzes and coppers) and the whole Pharos lighthouse thing again.

Graeyce - FVS and my one and only Half-Orc. She's fun. But hey, big, slow and not so pretty? So full of grace. Heh!

Most of mine are based on elements from a campaign setting I made shortly before Eberron was released in Pen and Paper.

Adberrain - The name of the prime material plane (planet)
Almuun - The singular diety in the setting
Hyowl - his last name is moonbrook. One of my kids plays his younger brother.
Silvereymoon - The moonbrook father.
Oornawhisper - Oorna was taken, so I included the surname. The name of the water elemental plane (a moon).
Cadris - The fire elemental plane (the sun)
Traegar - An old assassin. Cursed into a giant demon with murderous desires.
Kentulas - Earth elemental plane (moon)
Kazeel - A council member from an ancient society trying to return in the form of undead.
Fengren - A very ambitious blue dragon.
Kagenmarduk - Kagen was taken. Included surname. The villainous hill giant leader of a criminal organization on one of the continents in Adberrain.
Shimeron - A very charismatic Pirate leader who captains the only known landboat.
Furiston - A leader of another group. Working under Fengren.
Hythul - Another of the council members returning as an undead.

Darkshneider - Based on DS from the bastard! anime series.
Dealceipt - An old name for an evil cleric I made in UO. She is a demon in disguise.
Llano - Eberron related. She is (or was, cant find the info) was a deity either of the weave or shadow.
Redsonjia - Based on conan. Mispelled because it was the only one available.
Seikojin - Based on a character in a non dnd pnp game where I named him off Seiko the watch company and randomly generated a time controller.
Vasckus - the other guardian for Llano.
Atmaweapon - Boss from Final Fantasy 3 (6).
Toy - Character in a Novel I read. Couldn't believe how many mmo's dont have that name taken.

the only toon i have any thought of interms of name is Spyderwolf my main , and the name ive used for games basically forever.

Favorite animals are wolves but Wolf just wasnt distinctive enough, at the time i was reading Williams Blakes "The Tyger" (a poem written in 1794) and liked how the the way changing i to y looked.So i just started sticking other animals in front of wolf til one clicked, Spyderwolf flows really well together i think

all my other toons names dont matter as Spyderwolf is in them all.

hmm most of my characters are named in convention with eberon lore, or atleast d&d lore but i also tend to dedicate the character concept to a song but thats often more about alignment and character concept than name.

my mains:

Cobolt shaman: its a play on words (kobold shaman) but also corect to Warforge conventions, the name reflects both what he does and his appearance. (song inspiration: mr corwley - Ozzy)

Wrothgar: traditional dwarven name. (song inspiration: careful with that axe eugine - floyed)

TheMetal: warforge fighter assault model, (song: The metal - tenations D)

Shadeweaver: Had this name for a long time now, its an implication of lies and manipulation while also having conotations of stealth and posibly magic. (no song, more based on the idea of a wf with what is best described as a serious NAM complex.)

metaphysical paradox: the name of my mele intimi sorc, (song: Through the fire and the flames - dragon force.)

my OLD mains.

crazydiamond: wf mage, known as crazy to his freinds - diamond was his code name, crazy was a nic name. (song: crazytrain - Ozzy)

'uncle' Thorrun: traditional dwarf name again. (no song here)

pointblank: reference to the film gross pointblank and also to this rangers prefered distance.
